"W-what?" He asked, sounding really surprised. "What does that mean?"

"We're not breaking up, I just think that we need some time to...be apart and just figure things out" I explained

"Wow" he chuckled in disbelief

"I'm not sure if what I said made sense but I hope you get where I'm coming from"

"Does it even matter to you if I get where you're coming from or not?" He forced a small chuckle out

"It does matter to me that you understand why I think this is a good idea but even if you don't get why, I'm still not actually changing my mind about it right now" I tried to let it all out in the nicest and most gentle way possible.

"Alright then, it's fine...I would never force you to do anything so it's alright...so how long is this break for?"

"Let's just see how things go, I guess"

"Wow, what a high degree of uncertainty in your tone" he forced a chuckle again as he placed his hands in his pocket. "Well, I still love you, just so you know...I can still text you, right?" He asked

"Yes, of course, we can still talk" I assured him

"Alright then, that's fine" I could tell he forced a smile before he turned around and walked away.

I did the right thing... right?
That's the question that is probably going to flood my head for the rest of my day.

I returned back to the store. While Janelle was attending to a customer, Kelsie had joined Owen behind the counter.

"Hey Kelsie" I greeted her as I joined them at the back

"Hey, how are-"

"Ross and I are on a break" I replied

"What!" They both exclaimed

"Is it a big deal? I don't think it's a big deal" I said sounding a bit worried

I know I suggested it but it's not like I was actually hundred percent sure it was a good idea, I just felt it's something that we needed at this point in time to just figure things out separately....if that made any sense.

"Did Ross suggest it?" Owen asked

"No way, Ross couldn't have suggested it" Kelsie immediately replied

"I was actually the one who suggested it" I revealed

"Why?" She sounded sincerely worried

"We were having problems and he kept looking for who to blame it on, I just felt that we needed a little time apart to settle ourselves, we'll be fine, I'm sure of that, you guys don't need to worry, we are just on a break, it's not a breakup"

"Alright then, as long as you did what you're okay with" Owen said

"Did you guys have an argument yesterday? Is that why you didn't pick his calls yesterday night?"

"No, we didn't have an argument, my phone was on silent mode, I never even got to know why he even called me so many times"

"Oh, he didn't tell you?...Ross' parents have been having some problems for a while now and it's really been affecting Ross"

"What kind of problems?" I asked

"I don't know, he didn't tell me the details and my parents are obviously not going to tell me the details" Kelsie replied

"How long has this been going on?"

"Like a day after Selena's birthday, Ross told me that his parents were yelling at each other and he had to leave the house"
