There is something magical about the city of Lahore. The people, the sights, and the history has always enamored me, even more than the the kings of the Joseon dynasty in Korea or the nobility of the Edo period in Japan. During one of my many nomadic adventures in life, I stayed many years in Lahore and the people of Pakistan became my brothers and sisters.
It was during this time that I was exposed to the folklore behind the Lahore Fort and Badshahi Mosque. Of course no story regarding these two is complete without the mention of Anarkali. Having an entire market named after her, this woman was a symbol of everlasting love by some and betrayal by others. I decided to spend some time learning about the "most beautiful woman in Lahore" and was enamored with the history of Anarkali and the Mughals.
I recommend this book to everyone who has heard of Anarkali and her mysterious disappearance after Akbar forced her to be embedded alive in the wall of a dungeon.
