April 13th, 1919-the day acting military commander Reginald Dyer opened fire on the people gathered at the enclosed space of Jallianwala Bagh. Saraswati is a seventeen year old whose parents died in the same massacre. She barely escapes from being killed herself with the help of a British stranger-a recruit of the Anglo-Indian army. Staying with him, she soon finds out that her parents were not simply the victims of a brutal killing, but had been chased and murdered for an entirely different reason. Saraswati gradually starts to uncover these secrets and their astonishing connection to herself and the mysterious stranger. ***** This short story was selected for the final round of Yuva writing contest held by the government of India.
