Ivy Jacobs, without mean, swam around Cal Jacobs' eyes like a fairy in a glowing blue pool in a type of wonderland.

Ivy might've not seen it, or notice, but Nate Jacobs did. And he wanted the attention, he wanted to be a star. His fathers star. And so, he joined the football team his freshman year . . . And quick excelled. He became team captain & the star quarterback.

But then, Cassie forced Ivy to try out for the cheer team with her their freshman year — And Ivy cried in the bathroom stall when she got rejected three days later. She'd been too tall for the team.

     Cal Jacobs didn't like that.

And neither did Nate Jacobs, for obvious reasons: He was no longer the star.

And by the end of freshman year, Ivy Jacobs had landed herself in East Land High's volleyball team: The best setter & middle blocker on the team. She was every girls star volleyball player.

Nate Jacobs seem to stand no chance at wining.

But at least he wasn't Aaron, right? The fuck up? And the smallest part of him was glad Ivy wasn't like Aaron either.

       "Hey."

His voice always sounded harsh, even when Nate was trying to be somewhat of a decent human being. The girl sighed, pushing herself away from her mirror — dropping her mascara back into her small makeup bag. "Need a ride?"

He was trying to show her he was sorry.

Ivy brushed past him, without a glance before she jogged down the stairs. "Cass is picking me up."

And once upon a time, seventeen years ago .. A pink & bubblegum princess was born to a tortured mother ( wine vineyard hands wrapped around her neck ) and a father abused by chemicals ( he was rotting inside ). This girl, she wears pretty skirts ( the too short kind ) and she doesn't seem to care about fire. She doesn't like to hurt, but it's all she knows. Her silver mood ring is always stuck on orange except for when she walks back home from a party. The stars look like faces, sometimes. An entire history of light years up there, in the sky. And maybe, she knows everything that has ever happen up there. Then, like magic, her ring shifts to pink. Like the gum she steals from her mother's purse when she's too drunk to notice. She is a body of impulses, that can't be tamed. Her mother wants her to be careful, always. She says, "oh, honey" like a prayer, because she's a mess herself. And her father wants to tuck
her in but instead, says nothing but goodnight. He's afraid.
