Forged from the salt of the sea, rising from its depths were the sons of Quellon Greyjoy, vicious and hungry. They were bloodthirsty beasts within the confines of human bones; sea dragons in the skin of kraken. Ten of said creatures were born, but only five lived long enough to see manhood. Harald Greyjoy, though the eldest, was not the tallest or biggest, or strongest of them. But he was clever and he was cunning and he had a lust for power. His greed ran deep within him, infecting his blood like a deadly disease.
And the disease infected the children of Harald Greyjoy. It was a leech feeding off their every tissue and organ from the day they were born until the day they died.
These children made Quellon's look like silly schoolchildren, like frightened little animals in search for their mother. The youngest, Keris, was sweet and deadly like a poisoned cake; smiling as her fangs sunk through bone and shot venom. Scilla and Daemos Greyjoy were a two-headed serpent, a gruesome nightmare to behold. It was said their shared womb was rotten, that they were more monster than human. And then there was the matter of their eldest sibling, Karsen.
Karsen Greyjoy bit the hand that fed him; be it that of the Drowned God or his own father. He was ungrateful and fainéant, not one for contribution towards anything. He hadn't much of a care for anything that didn't involve himself or his own merriment– was is a disgrace to his people, an unfit, unworthy ruler. And when he should die, he will be buried or burnt in shame, so that he may never join his family and their god in his watery halls.

His father's voice rang through his ears day and night. You are no son of mine, he said, I should have killed you the moment I set eyes on you. A part of Karsen agreed, and the other was dying to prove his father wrong. At the end of the day, Harald Greyjoy detested his eldest son, so much so that not even a word from the Drowned God himself could make him open his heart.
But maybe a knife could.

A/N: see initially i was planning on making this a robert's rebellion era fic HOWEVER ! i wouldn't have been able to write the plot points that i wanted so </3 this is set around s2-3 with some canon divergence (duh!) !!!!! i'm so excited 2 finally write a cillian murphy character bc he's SEXY! 😁 🗡️ Anyway listen. i am especially excited 2 write miss cathelyn baratheon aka stannis' daughter bc i have so much planned for her🥰🥰 and of course miss aeresa who is a witch from essos!!! has one of the best plotlines i've ever made for any of my characters (not to mention she gets to kiss cillian murphy so😫) (hes way luckier than she is tho tbh) 🗡️ i came up w this idea after watching the northman in theaters and i've been obsessed with that movie ever since (i went to go see it 6 times at the cinema then bought the dvd IMMEDIATELY but anyway!) so there r a lot of elements from viking history/sagas as well as norse mythology ! and the northman is based off hamlet... this story is based off hamlet... euron is karsen's uncle... 😬😬😬 🗡️ although this fic is ocxoc, romance is def a subplot and it's a slowburn as well😫 and there are two other "love interests" throughout this that i'm excited to write but !!! what i'm most excited for is the terrible family dynamics🤭 🗡️ and with that, warnings! typical game of thrones tws though the main characters are iron islanders so they're a little more severe🥶 mentions of r*pe/SA (tagged in chapters), violence/abuse,, theyre alcoholics, they're murderers, the usual 😮💨 🗡️ dedicated 2 ppl who've shown interest in this every time i posted it on my mb (which is way more often than i thought😭)<3333 but also to protectremus for listening to me talk abt it<333 and to lotusqueens bc she is my inspiration for any and all fics set in the asoiaf universe🫶🏼 and liIiths for being an ENABLER plz stop telling me to post things i have too many drafts😭 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 enjoy !!! :D
