Just Business

Chapter Twelve: Caitlyn

A month has passed by since Persephone had come to the company and taken over. River had been working as head of one of the departments, but I could see it was not what she really wanted. She was trying to form a conversation with me whenever she gets the chance, but I just can't stay around her for long.

My feelings for River are still strong for her but all the information about her sister just made me not want to get involved. What if River becomes a target then that makes me a target, I just don't want danger and drama from it all. Even though Persephone has seemingly come away from that she could still have loose strings and connections.

It was the start of a new week and after meetings and differences being argued we were finally ready to open a new nightclub, a project that River had concluded after taking over Michael's work. I was invited by Persephone to attend since she agreed that I had been a big help towards finishing it. I never mentioned what happened in San Deigo to anyone, but Caleb, Conor and Damon and I wasn't planning on it. So when she asked what had happened at the last meeting and why it didn't have a good ending, I lied and just said it was creative differences. She didn't seem to believe me but didn't push it.

I was putting the final touches of my outfit together when I heard a knock on the door and quickly made my way to open it to see Caleb and Conor since they were also attending the opening.

"You look beautiful Caitlyn" Conor gushed, and I did a small twirl for them as I looked at them both.

"You both look handsome as always, but let's get going, we are already late" I said, and we made the quick drive to the nightclub.

As we entered, the place was lit up by bright colours of purple and blue. A long table was set up with food from different countries and a bar with a range of drinks from cocktails to beer. I looked around and spotted River and Persephone at once with a woman who I assumed was her wife as she had her arm hooked through Persephone's, having a conversation for once. I watched them for a while and noticed them both smiling and at one point laughing, and I asked myself if things were getting better between them both after a while River excused herself and walked away as I made that my attempt to walk over to Persephone.

"I made it" I announced as she looked me up and down and smiled.

"So you have, and you look amazing. This is my wife Luiza" she introduced, and I shook her hand and introduced myself. They both matched each other perfectly as a beautiful couple, Persephone was the moon, the dark one while Luiza was the sun, the light in their relationship, I felt envy only because I wanted that one day.

"This place is going to be packed soon, and everyone will be having a good time, you've worked well this month, you deserve to have fun" she told me, I nodded, and she quickly grabbed my chin to look at her as I kept forgetting her rule. She slowly used her thumb to wipe the corner of my mouth probably fixing my lipstick and then she looked into my eyes. Luiza didn't seem to mind as if this were a behaviour she was used to witness.

"I um, I'll try to have a good time" I tell her and she nods accepting my answer, drops my chin and leads her wife away to talk to the people who made this project happen and I had a moment to calm myself down after that encounter as I made my way to the bar for a much needed drink.

As the party got into full swing it indeed got very busy, people stood like sardines in a can, but I managed to keep to the outskirts of people talking, some people grabbing my attention for congratulations but that was all. I had lost Persephone and River in the sea of people as well as Caleb and Conor, so I was looking for them, but I was grabbed by the wrist and pulled to a secluded area. My breath hitched as I came face to face with none other than Reginald Huntington. I tried to run away but he grabbed me and pinned me against the wall with his hand.
