Chapter 4

Cody POV (Sorry to not switch it this chapter)

We all chowed down on the pizza and watched "The Karate Kid." After we were full of pizza, we were all laying on the floor to finish watching the movie. "I think I'm going into a food coma," Al said as she laid her head on Evan, closing her eyes.

"I think I am too. Too much pizza," Evan replied. This made Al giggle quietly. "When you talk, your chest vibrates," she said as he put an arm around her and rubbed her back.

"I think my pizza is going to come back up," said Cameron, making gagging noises. Carli hit him with a pillow and made a face at him. "I think that it's cute. Leave them alone," she said sticking her toungue out. Al blushed and Evan pulled her closer.

After all deciding that we were bored with watching movies, it was determined that it was time for truth or dare, which everyone knows results in a lot of dares. To make it a little easier to back out, if you didn't want to do a dare, you had to down a spoonful of hot sauce. The first one usually went down pretty easily, but after that, it started to burn.

Al volunteered to go first and narrowed her eyes at me with a smirk as she asked, "Truth or Dare, Cody?" I replied with truth, starting it off easy. With a chuckle, she said, "Tell us about your first kiss." She already knew but apparently wanted to hear it again. I said, "Well it was in eighth grade with Elaine Martin and we were at the skating rink sitting on one of the benches and as I leaned into kiss her, one of my friends, Ryan, skated up and landed on me, pushing me into her. Needless to say she never spoke to me again." Everyone laughed at my misfortune, no doubt thinking about their own first kisses.

I turned to Evan, asking truth or dare. He quickly replied with dare. After about two seconds of thinking, I said, "I dare you to kiss Al." I might as well have told the boy he won the lottery with the smile that lit up his face. He put a hand on her cheek, brushing her hair back behind her ear as he slowly leaned in. Kissing her very softly, he wrapped his arm around her waist and one of hers went around his neck. My stomach turned over, making me rethink the whole have Evan kiss Al idea. Suddenly, I didn't like it so much.

Thankfully, Al pulled away, blushing and sat back with his arm still wrapped around her. Evan drug his eyes away from her long enough to say, "Cameron, truth or dare?" Cameron quickly responded dare, always ready to do something stupid. "I think you should have to bark like a dog any time someone says your name for the rest of the night," Evan said, keeping the game relatively tame. Cameron nodded and turned to Carli with a smile on his face.

"Carli, truth or dare?" he questioned with a glint in his eye.

"Ummm, truth," she said hesitantly.

"I dare you to tell Cody what's going on between us," he stated, standing up to gather his things. What was he talking about? Carli quickly shook her head no, but Cameron just nodded. Carli stood up, taking my hand and lead me out of the room.

"Um Cody, there's something I kind of have to tell you," she said avoiding my gaze. Before I could ask what, she said, "Please don't interrupt until I'm done. Okay. So Cameron and I have been seeing each other. It started out totally innocent. I would never want to hurt you and neither would he. He and I just fit so well together. I know I should've told you sooner, but I was afraid to lose what we had together. I love him, Cody. I really do or else I wouldn't do this to you. You're one of the best friends I have, and I don't want to lose that." Tears gathered in her eyes and overflowed onto her cheeks, but she kept looking at the ground. I couldn't believe it. She cheated on me. With my best friend. They both betrayed me. One question kept running through my mind and I asked as soon as I was able to get my voice back.

"How long?" I asked quietly.

"I wanted to tell you before, I really-"

"How long?" I cut her off again.

"Six months," she finally answered.

I felt the tears rising to the surface as well as the anger boiling just below them. "Get out. And take him with you. I don't ever want to see either of you again," I stated quietly, trying to keep my temper under control. As she leaned over to kiss my cheek, I turned my head away, not wanting her last sign of affection. I stood in the kitchen, counting the floor tiles until I heard the front door shut.

Small footsteps padded into the room, and I heard things being put in the fridge. I looked up to see Al cleaning up the aftermath of the sleepover. "Go hang out with Evan, Al. I've got this," I told her, trying to find something to do to keep me busy.

"I told him that I'd see him another time. They're all gone. Let's go get you into bed," she said quietly. She led me up the stairs to my room, where I saw all the pillows and blankets piled on my bed. I looked around the room while she straightened them into something I could lay on, when my eyes landed on a picture of Carli and I on my nightstand. I picked up the frame, glancing at it for a moment before I threw it to the ground as hard as I could.

Al jumped, carefully walking to me over all the broken glass, and led me to bed. "I'll clean it up," she said, going to fetch the vacuum cleaner.

Within five minutes, she had the mess cleaned up. Within the next ten, she had all traces of Carli and Cameron gone from my room.

I guess I should have felt sad. Or more angry. But I didn't.

I just felt numb.

Empty.
