I stared mindlessly into the mirror on my bedroom wall.

Something felt wrong at that very moment... But, I had no idea what it could've been. I shrugged away the feeling as I continued to analyze everything before my eyes, including my own reflection.

I didn't feel like I was staring at myself... No, I just wasn't. It wasn't me. The girl I saw was angry, yet filled of the deepest sorrows all at once. Her eyes were far away. You could visibly see the pain she felt on a near-daily basis.

"No... I'm not going to let myself be anything like her." I muttered to myself, breathing heavily.

"Kaitlyn, honey..." My aunt gently placed her hand on my shoulder, as she suddenly appeared in my room. "Are you alright?" She looked at my reflection in the mirror once she'd realized that I wasn't going to turn and face her.

Shakily, I nodded my head. "Uh, yeah... I'm fine." I added in a small [fake] smile. "Why?" I finally turned to face her.

She'd visibly been crying probably only a matter of several minutes before. Her eyes were red and her makeup was smudged around practically her entire face. "No reason." She smiled before hugging me tightly. "I just want to let you know that everything's going to be okay... No matter what happens. I promise you that."

"But... But, what are you talking about? What's wrong?" I was worried - no, more than worried. I was scared, completely terrified, even.

"Aunt Brooke." I persisted, after a moment of pure silence. "What's going on?"

She refused to make eye contact with me as she finally spoke her next words. "Nothing's wrong, Kaitlyn... I promise you that. I just got done..." She said hesitantly as her voice trailed off. As she did, she seemed to concoct some kind of an excuse. "A movie. I just got done watching some sad movie." She smiled at me. "Okay?" She looked to me for a sign that I believed her words.

"Okay." I nodded, my head hanging toward the floor. I knew she was lying, but I couldn't just call her out on it. No, I was going to have to figure this all out on my own using my super-handy and somewhat amazing detective skills (please take note of the fact that this was said by the most easily confused girl who rarely even knows what's going on and fluently speaks in sarcasm.)

For a short two minutes, which felt more like two eternities, we sat in a loud silence... Our wandering minds clearly getting the better of us both.

"Mommy, someone's at the door," Hazel softly spoke as she made her way into my room. On her face, she wore the same sad expression as my aunt minus the visibility of having previously cried.

"Alright, baby." She breathed heavily. "I-I-I'll be right there."

Something was wrong, and this just backed up my wandering thoughts from the other night...

"Guys..." I paused as I took note of a rather obnoxious Jordan mocking me from the other side of the living room. "Go away." I glared at her.

"Make me." She smirked.

"You're on." I hopped off of the couch, tackling her to the ground where we proceeded to wrestle each other (and, clearly I was winning.)

"I win!" I shouted after a few minutes passed by, jumping up from behind the couch with my arms stretched out high above me. At that exact moment my aunt happened to conveniently be walking by.

"No." She raised an eyebrow. "You have company, missy."

"But-but-but..." I made what were supposed to be puppy-dog eyes, but one might label as 'Kaitlyn is cross-eyed with a horrible blinking problem.'
