I shot John Lennon.

No, not like that. That was that bastard Chapman. Hope he'll be spending the rest of his life in prison for what he's done. Serves him right. Murder in and of itself is wrong, a horrible evil.

Well, allow me to actually explain. I shot John Lennon with a camera. Multiple times, in my studio. Yeah, believe it or not, I was alone in a room with him- more than once. Just me, my photography equipment, and him.

I guess that would be any young photographer's dream. Doing a professional photoshoot with a renowned celebrity. It brings the artist lots of publicity and a chance in the spotlight. But for me, it was more than just fame.

It taught me that a 23-year-old Jewish girl from a poor family in Chicago could lead a successful life in Manhattan. That's what I was, after all: Miriam Hannah Ruben, photographer. It was an experience that encouraged me, that validated my career choice, that inspired and invigorated me.
