My eyes scanned over the dozens of unfamiliar faces that were in deep conversations with men and women dressed up in designer clothes and thousands of dollars’ worth of diamonds they’ll only wear once because they wouldn’t dare to be seen in the same thing twice.

They all look the same to be honest. Bragging about either their successful business or the times they had at their million dollar summer home they have in the Hamptons. Bullshit if you ask me.

My eyes land on a lady, no older then early 30’s. She stands around the circle with the Walters, a well-known family here in New York, they own around 150 hotels throughout the city and most of Manhattan, so yes they’re rich. I notice her smile first. She is nodding her head along to the conversation with a smile that doesn’t quite reach her eyes. Her eyes hold a misty blue colour but they look sad and bored, almost unhappy like.

See that’s the question I wish I could ask every single person here in this house. Are you happy? Yes you have loads of money, but money sure as hell doesn’t mean happiness.

Her eyes soon meet mine and look away quickly, darting my attention to the champagne glass I hold in my hand that half empty. Im 17 and drinking champagne with adults and talking about politics. Yeah well, this has been my life since I was born really. Not the champagne part obviously but being in a room full of rich obnoxious people talking about bullshit, having to look my best , always, even from the moment I get up in the morning. I wake up and women are in my room telling me to have a shower they’ll be waiting to do my hair and makeup in aproxitmently  30 minutes. I can’t even walk downstairs till I am dressed in my best, without my parents telling me I look like trash, but you know what? They can shove it up their-

“well you look like you’re having a hell of a time” a deep voice whispers in my ear sending chills down my spine from his hot breath fanning down my neck. I turn around immediately to be greeted with astonishing grey eyes. The colour so unique, nothing I have ever seen before in my life. My eyes now scan his features. Shaggy blonde hair slicked back off his forehead  revealing gorgeous grey eyes. He was almost a head taller than me, my eye level was looking at his perfect pink lips which were pulled up on one side forming a smartass smirk right above his perfectly defined jaw line with his perfect tan. God dammit he was the definition of perfect in his black dress pants and jacket, white crisp button up underneath and black bow tie.

“It’s not polite to stare you know” he says and his smirk deepens.

Just as I thought, obnoxious like everyone else in the room.

“yeah, whatever” I scoff and turn around. Who does he think he is?

“oh come on sweetheart, no need for the attitude” he says sending me a wink. I roll my eyes and I open my mouth to say something but he beats me too it.

“why don’t you just be a good little waiter and get me another glass of champagne” I resorts. Oh fuck no.

“You little sh-“

“Eleanor” I hear my father’s voice call for me.

“Yes, father?” I respond

He looks from me to the boy beside me then back to me giving me a smile. “It’s time” he smiles and I nod my head turning my head towards the boy and his mouth hangs open slightly and I roll my eyes at him.

“Asshole” I mutter under my breath and follow my father.

My father holds up a glass and a knife clinging them together getting everyone’s attention.

“As most of you know, my Daughter, Eleanor here is amazingly talented and recently she has had the chance to work with the Musician Ed Sheeran. They spent multiple hours in a studio, writhing and playing and today she has to show us a song she wrote and Ed co-wrote so here I have you my beautiful daughter, Eleanor Montgomery.” I smile towards everyone as the clap and applauded and I make my way to the piano and sit down. My fingers caress the keys before they start to work their magic through the intro and I open my mouth and start to sing focussing on the keys im playing not daring to look up. My voice and the melody play’s throughout the room captivating the people in the room. I end the last note and the audience applauds.

Now thats what I live for. The sound of people enjoying what I create and liking it. I live for that sound.

I smile, I real smile and I look up at the crowd before me and my eyes meet one pair of eyes. The same grey eyes I just met 10 minutes ago.

His face shows no emotion. None at all and I can’t read his expression and usually i can read anyone’s face but not his. He has a wall that not coming down.

He stands with a man and women who must be his Mother and Father, I can resemble the similar features. He looks like his mom but has similar features like his fathers but his eyes are his own.

Before I know it my father’s leading me towards them and I start to panic. My mother appears on my right side and places a kiss on my cheek. “you did wonderful dear, and you look stunning” she compliments me and I smile at her and give her a hug. “Thank you Mother” I reply and we all make our way over.

“Ahh Christian Montgomery, thank you for having us in your home this evening its truly immaculate, and Sierra, you look ravishing as always.” The man greets us.

“Walter you know you are a part of the union now so this gathering is to welcome you, it’s a pleasure to have you here.” My father gushes. Apart of the union? Since when do we have newbies?

“oh where are my manners! This is my Daughter, Eleanor” my father adds again bragging about me and I desperately want to roll my eyes but instead I smile towards them avoiding Mr. arrogant that keeps staring at me.

“Eleanor, what a talent you have! You were lovely my dear. Im Walter Chandler, this here is my wife Veronica” he stops as his wife step forward and shakes my head and tells me I was amazing. “and this here is my son Jonah. Jonah this is-“ he says but gets interrupted by his son. “Eleanor Montgomery, yes we have already met” he smiles and my family and his then looks back at me his smirk doesnt leave his face. My mother and father and the Chandler’s all stare at me in confusion and amusement. “Briefly” I say and force a smile and they all blow into conversation except Jonah and I, he just smirks at me and his eyes roam my body making me squirm uncomfortably.

I must of zoned out throughout the whole conversation because when I come back my parents and Jonah's are walking away. As I watch them Jonah leans in and whispers in my ear “you know you’re  kinda sexy, but I wonder that you look like under the innocent clothes” his raspy voice sends shivers down my spine once again and my mouth drops in shock as he chuckles and walks away.
