Note to the Reader
I Would, was a poem written for someone special to me, but a woman who I can’t be with all the time due to where we are in life right now. Through the distance love can still survive, it just takes a little hard work and stubbornness at time.
I wrote this poem as a present to her on Valentine’s Day. I also wrote this poem as a present to those people who are in a similar position, or who have been in a relationship similar to mine in the past.
I Would
I
If I could take our
two points on the map
(you’re at point A
and I am point B,)
I would.
And even though that'd
create jagged mountains
and steep valleys
in each fold of the paper,
I would climb up,
rappel down,
and repeat
until I reached
my point A.
II
Men have tried cutting out
the distance, in the past.
Bridges span mighty rivers.
Tunnels worm through mountains.
Canals have divided continents.
Yet, that doesn't decrease
the longing for point A.
III
If I could create a wormhole
to link us,
I would.
If I could learn to teleport,
I would.
Sadly, all is impossible for now.
Folding a roadmap doesn't alter the world.
I can't cut through space & time,
or a mountainside.
IV
However there is a closer point.
In my mind, you are always at point C.
This will hold me over until I'm closer
to point A. Closer to you.
I only have to close my eyes.
V
When I can cut the distance
forever,
I will.
