Sock know-how (runners and walkers)
Many runners are happy to pay decent money for a quality pair of running shoes but for the majority, when it comes to socks, a three-pack for under a fiver seem to suffice.

Although by no means guaranteed to rid the runner of a persistent race curse, the use of two layers of fabric fundamentally changed the way some runners perceived the sock market. The idea behind this concept was that double layers would absorb friction while at the same time wicking away moisture, so dramatically reducing the very cause of blisters.

With the constant improvement in the fabrics used, these qualities have been enhanced over time with resultant improvements in performance. Many runners would not consider running long distance events in anything else while many regard them as overpriced gimmicks.

Cushioning is another improvement in modern socks that can be the sole reason why some invest more in a pair of socks than others. The level of padding can differ by brand but the principle is the same in all of them. In other words it gives the runner more protection in the areas of the foot that take the most pounding.

Motivation for walkers

The number one question we are asked is how to get and stay motivated.
We are all motivated by different things. You have to find out what motivates you. One women's motivation might be wanting to stay healthy and fit for her children. Another motivation is that a girl's fitness program keeps her in shape to be able to do things she enjoys.

Think of all the benefits of a fitness program. Choose the things that matter to you and focus on them. Make a list of all the benefits you will personally receive from your program and make a list of the others that will benefit. (Who else will benefit if you become more fit? --Everyone in your life.)

Now make a list of all the excuses you have for not "doing it". Slowly find ways to remove each of these from your list.

You have to make YOU and your fitness a priority.
