This story takes place in a dystopian era, just after what is known as The Great Desolation strikes. After the government releases a disease in all of the world's Divisions, that was intended to kill off half of the over-populated world's populace, the attempt becomes one in vain. Quickly, all who were overcome by the disease not only become half-dead, but inhuman creatures of sorts. It wasn't the world altering to mayhem that drove seventeen year old, Emery Greene to join one of the five army basis, located in The Great Pacific. It had hardly been over patriotism, either. Joining the group had been an escape for her; an escape from her old life that habitually haunts her dreams. What happened at one of the Refugee camps she'd homed herself in, five years after the affliction of the Great Desolation occurred, had been the final straw. She'd promised herself a new life, one involving nothing but closure and duty, on the great vessel she shortly thereafter inhabited. That, or she'd die trying; a thought that was welcomed to her. However, a few people interfere with that oath. She's begun to question whether to incorporate those individuals into her life and risk losing them like all her other losses, or remain independent as she had grown so familiar to being. All throughout her struggle to let those around her in, she is met with the flashbacks that haunt her every waking day; the very reason she questions her consideration of dependency in the first place. But her Resolve is slipping.
