The gears in the doors start turning, and I snap my head up as they start opening. I look back at Alby and he stands next to Minho. Are they going in there? "We'll be gone for a while. There's a dead Griever out there, and we think that might've happened with Ben." He says. Panic starts to rise inside me. "B-But, Alby. What if--" I begin as I run to him. "Don't worry about me, I'll be fine. We'll be back soon." He says, holding both of my shoulders. "I'm not sure, though. I mean, you're going in there to look for a dead creature. What if it isn't dead? What if--" I say, but Alby holds his hand up, silencing me. "Mavis, it's like I always say, you're not human if you're not afraid. And," I look up at him, and he smiles down at me. "And I know, that you're a brave girl. You can handle some things without me. If Gally is being mean to you, just report to Newt. He'll take care of it." I nod. I know that he'll take care of it, by punching Gally in the face and gut, and much more.

"Okay." I say, and Alby hugs me tight and I hug back. We let go and I wave to him, and he waves back as he and Minho runs inside the maze, turning to a right corner and disappearing. "Be safe." I whisper, but I know, that neither of them can hear me. Newt walks over to my side, still looking into the maze. "They'll be fine. They'll be back before we know it." He says, and I don't say anything. I'm praying that he's right, that Alby and Minho will be back soon.

~three hours later~

Too long. They've been gone for three hours, and they're still not back yet. I'm really starting to get worried. Alby said that he'll be back soon. Stop worrying so much, Mavis! A small voice in my head orders me. But Alby has been like a big brother to me ever since I got here, so it's kinda my job to worry about him and his safety. Minho, on the other hand, I can worry about, too, even though I haven't said a word yet to him. Maybe he's waiting for me to do that, say something to him. Or maybe he doesn't want anything to do with me, but I do thank him for getting Ben off my chest my first night in the Glade.

"Hey, Mavis!" I turn around and see Deshawn waving me over to him. I head over to where a small group of boys are with him. I'm really starting to like Deshawn, and he claims me as his friend, which I'm glad for him accepting me as his friend. He wants me to show a couple of the boys how to shoot an arrow, and I accept. The boys, I recognize Winston as part of the group, watch closely as I demonstrate how the bow and arrow were made. I tell them that they are used primarily for hunting and archery, and someone who makes a bow is called a bowyer, and the other person who creates the arrows is called a fletcher, and an arrow smith is someone who manufactures the metal arrow heads. I start naming a few bows and arrows, like the crossbow, longbow, and a compound bow, while the rest are completely wiped from my mind. I also tell them that the bow and arrow is not a toy to play with, and that they should handle them with care.

Clearly, they all take notes of my teaching, and Deshawn now sees me as an advanced shooter. I ask him about any news on Alby and Minho, but all he got out was, "Not yet.", and I ask the group of boys to review every kind of bow that might come in handy one day for them. "Birds are back!" A boy in the back yells out, and we all turn our heads to the side to see a flock of turkeys roaming around in part of the Glade. "What are turkeys doing here?" I ask. The Glade is a pretty medium sized place, but the woods seem pretty small for turkeys to live in. "We found a flock couple months ago, and we left them alone." Winston responds. Hmm, I wonder....

I load an arrow, and turn to the guys, "One thing about archery, it can be fun," I begin as I free the arrow, and even though I'm not looking, I know that it hit one of the turkeys. "but it's even more fun when you're hunting." I finish with a triumph smile. The boys whoop and applaud for me. "Do you think it's dead?" One boy asks. "Somebody go look." Winston says. "Umm, you go." Another boy suggests, and Winston runs over to where the turkey with my bow in its fat body lies. "It's dead! Good job, Mavis!" He yells over to us, and everyone pats me on the back and shoulder. Winston comes back with my bow in his hand, and the turkey in the other. "I'll go bring this to Frypan." He says, and I nod and thank him as he returns my bow to me.
