Chapter 79

Aelita looked at him and tried to move her hand to reach her saber but found it was uniquely controlled. Soon, booming was heard; it sounded like artillery shells from an older war documentary she'd listen to. A blaring siren was heard shortly after the thunder of the artillery, and before Aelita knew it, she was hurtling through the rhombus door and was on a battlefield.

The battlefield was that of a run-down urban center. Where Aelita didn't know, she'd looked at the flags of nearby buildings, but they weren't helpful. They only had two different insignia, a turquoise dove on a black backdrop and a gold dual-layered triangle on a black backdrop. All around her, there were explosions, the sound of shattering rubble and gravel flying filled her ears, and she tried to move her eyes, but she found she couldn't.

To Aelita's horror, she saw she was controlled as if watching all her actions in the first person as she moved forward with extreme speed through the overwhelming chaos. She watched in horror as her body moved with breathtaking proficiency taking out the shotgun and, with several blasts, cleaved men and women at the waist and neck. Her skill at reloading was just as stunning, but internally, she could now understand the blonde's eyes, his same gaze, that of genuine terror and sadness.

Aelita heard coordinates in her ear, "Enemy coming in at the East, converge and neutralize the bastards, go, go, go!"

To her horror, Aelita saw her body go in the opposite direction and through several side streets, taking a moment to catch her breath as even she realized there was a limit as to what could be done. Soon, her body picked up again, and she was off at a breakneck pace. As the reports of gunfire got ever closer, she felt her body and then saw it perform a massive strafe to the left, and whirling out the shotgun; she began to fire once more, destroying the skulls and taking out the legs before her in a horrendous display of bloodied bone pulp.

Inside, Aelita screamed, "Stop, stop! For the love of God, stop!" But these screams went unabated as, one by one, she saw the carnage as her fingers continued to pull the trigger over and over, her body advancing slowly but surely. When out of ammunition, Aelita saw her hand grip her saber and storm forward; with a flash of steel, Aelita cleaved into a man's neck, leaving him to die. With the fallen man's comrade's lack of attention attempting to hold the ground, Aelita watched in utter horror as the saber went through the man's back to jut back through his abdomen.

Suddenly, a cry rang out, "Natasha!"

Aelita felt her body whirl around, the shotgun ready to fire when suddenly a deep hum and flash of light blinded her, and she heard a voice scream, "Ah! What the fuck?!"

At that moment, Aelita felt her body receive a massive blow to her right and then fly back into a few barrels.

"You fucking bitch!" The voice screamed, "Sylvia! Enough of your damned games! Show yourself!"

The gunfire around them had fallen progressively silent, Aelita listened, and soon she heard a rolling nearby, Aelita felt her vision jerk, and she saw it, a silver sphere.

"No!" Screamed the voice and ran with the speed that Aelita thought only Ulrich was capable of in super-sprint before she saw the sphere detonate with a thunderous blast that even to Aelita was immensely impressive. Soon, the troops around her began to fire on Aelita, and she felt her body relocate again.

Once she was safe, Sylvia yelled out, "Sylvia! Fight me without your puppets!"

"I will once you stop using Aelita as yours, puppet-girl." Came the retort to the left of Aelita. Aelita whirled, and the report of the shotgun was heard.

"See? You're sloppy! It's easy to command Aelita when you have stripped all but her mind because the soul is something you can't govern!" Sylvia asked this time from behind.
