Another You

You catch yourself on that thought, as the odd feeling in your gut grew stronger, making you want to throw up. Is this something you forgot? Did something happen to your friends?

Or what if it's something that's going to happen?

You feel sick. A small sense of panic rushes over you, making the air around you hard to breathe. You try to calm yourself down, but it's no use. The best you can do right now is to make your actions unnoticeable. 

Someone did notice though. You felt a cold, wet nose poke your arm. You raised your arm as Akamaru rested his head on your lap, looking at you with his big eyes filled with concern and love. 

You give his head a pat, along with a little scratch behind his ears which you know he loves. 

"Thanks buddy, but I'm okay. I promise." You say to Akamaru. He jumps up a little as he licks your cheek. You smile as you give him more attention. The unsettling feeling that controlled your body left with every lick Akamaru gave you.

"He can always tell how you're feeling. You know you can't hide it from him." Kiba says, giving you a knowing look.

You give Kiba a soft smile, hoping it'll make him stop himself from asking you if there's anything wrong with you. You've had enough of that for the day.

"No, Akamaru knows I'm the one who usually gives him snacks. Right boy?" you say in a deep baby voice like how you used to talk to Akamaru when he was a puppy. Akamaru raises his head in return and gives a loud bark.

Kiba smiles as he watches you and Akamaru interact. He could tell something was up with you, but let it go once he saw how happy you became when playing with Akamaru. 

Shino and Naruto just finished their battle. Shino was declared the winner because he directed all of his beetles to invade Naruto's underwear. Naruto squealed like a little girl, yelling out that Shino could win today. Everyone roared in laughter as Naruto had a hard time trying to get all of the beetles out from his underwear. 

The competitions today were only semi serious, just in case any of you were sent on emergency missions. It was still a great chance to hangout and laugh with friends. 

"Alright, so uh, who wants to go next?" Shikamaru asked the group.

Ino shot you an evil grin and says "Me and y/n! She said last time we could spar but she napped instead!"

Oh right. You totally forgot about that. A couple weeks ago you promised to train with Ino, but the day you two were supposed to train was the day you returned from a 5 day long mission. You collapsed once you returned home, forgetting about your and Ino's training. 

You give her a smile right back and tease, "Because it wouldn't have been worth my time. I would've won way too fast."

"We'll see about that!" She says, as you high five and make your way to the training grounds. 

Sakura gives a loud yell, cheering both of you on. As you get into your starting positions, Choji raises a flag. "Ready, set, go!" He yells quickly so he can eat more snacks. 

Right away you throw some shuriken at Ino, not letting her concentrate enough to use her mind possession technique. She sends a few back at you, managing to hide herself behind a rock. You pause, waiting for her to show herself. 

You send a few lightning strikes at the rock she's hiding behind hoping it draws her out. Not breaking your concentration from the rock, you reach into your hip bag and grab a kunai with a small paper bomb attached. 

As you're about to throw it, you hear a taunt from behind you. Ino had made her way out from behind the rock. She used the dust that clouded around the rock from your lightning blasts as cover, and managed to sneak behind you.

Not giving you a chance to attack, she uses her mind possession jutsu. You fight, resisting her before she digs into your mind. After a minute, she's back in her own body, screaming in terror. You rush to her, concerned about what just happened. You didn't come face to face with Ino in your mind, so what did she see?

You wrap her up in a hug, apologizing for any bad memories of yours she may have seen. Ino shakes her head.

"I-I've seen your memories before when we've trained. This was new, and I don't think it was your memory I saw." she explains. 

"What do you mean, Ino?"

"There was another you inside, only she was badly wounded, crying, and a little older than you are now. She, she pulled me into her memories. Everything was the same as before, only this time I saw-" tears swelled in her eyes. "I saw, us, d-dead." She cries into you.

You freeze. There was two of you? How is that even possible?

You think this could explain your headaches all day, and the weird feeling you've had around your friends. But what does it mean? Now that you sort of understand where the feelings are coming from, now you just have to figure out why.

You don't want to burden anyone else with this. You don't want them to worry about or even know what Ino saw. You beg Ino to not say anything and to just say she saw the scary movie in your mind that you watched last night. 

You thought it would take a lot to convince her, but she actually agrees quickly. You think it's because she doesn't want to have to relive that all again, telling the group. You two hug, acknowledging the match is over. 

Shikamaru and Kiba run over, concerned about the scream they heard from Ino.

"Y/n watched a scary movie last night, and she made me look at the scariest parts when I got into her mind." Ino says, giving a fake smile as she wiped her tears. "She knows how much I hate scary things. She got me good!"

You give her another hug, letting her know that you're sorry for what she saw. 

"I think it's safe to say it was a draw. Right Ino?" you ask.

"Right." she replies. 

The rest of the day goes on without incident. Your friends brought a birthday cake for you, wishing you a happy birthday as you blew out the candles. All of your friends begged for you to tell them what you wished for, but you kept that to yourself. 

Ino eventually calmed down, reassuring you that she won't say anything about what she saw. She offers to help you figure out why this is happening to you, but you decline. 

You want to be able to handle this on your own. You have to protect your friends.

It is now early evening as you head back towards your home. You take the long way to get there, going through different parks and empty areas of the village. 

Although Konoha village was beautiful, you never felt truly at home here. Orphans weren't treated well in the village, and technically you were born outside of the village too, so you always felt like an outcast. Your friends made it a lot better, but there was still a part of you that wanted to live outside of Konoha.

You took in the evening sky one last time before walking through your apartment door. After a quick wash in the shower, you slumped onto the bed as your body and mind gave in to the exhaustion from today.

As your eyes started to get heavier and heavier, your mind replayed the day. The voice, what Ino saw, the masked man. What did this all mean? Are they connected? Or am I just overthinking things, stretching my mind too thin?

Falling into a deep slumber, the last thing you remember is a vision of the masked man. You wondered if you would ever see him again. Well, it was your birthday wish so maybe it would come true, right?
