Chapter 7 - Cross Connection

Start from the beginning

The kid took Pallavi's purse and held it out to her. When turned towards her she could see tears in his eyes. She took her purse but bent down to his height.

"Are you okay? What's wrong?"

When he didn't say anything. She tried to place a hand on his shoulder he jerked it off.

"Are you alone? Do you need help, tell me please. I want to help you"

Again silence. Pallavi stood up and looked at the giant. He bent down and whispered something in the kids ear. The kid started talking right away. His younger sister was hungry. Their father hadn't come home in days. A sad tale that made Pallavi teary eyed too. She bent down and asked where his sister was and to take her there. She held his hand and was about to walk away when the giant held her hand.

"Don't you want to do a police complaint?"

"No why would I do that?"

"He broke the law. He stole your purse."

"He has his reasons. A wrong action for the right  reason is not wrong."

He stared at her. When he didn't say anything she made a move to leave again.

"Let my man go with him. He will bring them both back. What do you plan on doing with them?"

"I plan to help them. I will take them to the police and file a missing case for their dad. Then help the kids however I can"

"You are a unusual person. Miss?"

"Pallavi. Why because I want to help"

"Yes. In this world people mind their business. Let him go with my man."

Pallavi let the kid's hand go and watched a angry looking guy approach them. The kid was frightened and clutched her saree.

"He won't hurt you. Go with in your Pallavi didi will be here waiting for you to come back."

The kid looked at her. She nodded so he went with the man down the street. She looked at the giant again he was now leaning against a car. It was an expensive car - she didn't know which but was sure Nikhil would have gone crazy over it.

"Thank you for helping me. Mr?"

"Vaasu, just Vaasu"

She stood there silently just looking at the people on the street. Since he didn't speak she didn't want to be the one taking. He moved from the car and went to the chai place few paces from where they were standing. After a few minutes he returned with two chai. He gave her one glass which she took and thanked him.

"Raheem Chacha makes the best chai I have ever tasted."

Pallavi looked at him in surprise.

"Don't look so surprised. I grew up on these streets. When I had nothing to my name Raheem chacha would feed me. I told him that one day I would be something he would laugh and tell me to keep dreaming and working towards them. He helped me back in those days the same way you are doing today. The kid will forever remember you."

"I believe that if it's in your power to help someone you should."

"Like I said before you are very unusual person. I am glad to have met you"

"Umm not sure if that was a compliment. But thank you regardless"

"It was. So your plan won't work. The police won't prioritize their fathers case. You and I both know how it works. There is no chance of finding him that way."

Pallavi knew that he spoke the truth but saw no other way.

"So what else can I do?"

"I will have my men look for him. Until then I have a place the kids can stay"
