Once Upon A Bloody Crown Chapter 12 Part 2

Start from the beginning

“Doctor Woods has the gift of transferring the pain to someone else, wether if it’s all the pain or just some of it, it is usually up to his patient,” he said nonchalantly. I stared at him blankly before soon realising what had actually happened when the doctor was still in the room.

“Jace, did you-?” I looked at him in disbelief seeing the guilty look on his face. “Why? Why are you doing so much for me?”

“Because I don’t want you to hate me, I don’t want you to be afraid of me, I don’t want you to think I’m a monster.” He said truthfully and I could tell he was trying to hold himself back and give me my space. I felt a pang of guilt hit me as I remembered what I said to him earlier about his kind. Just as I was about to apologize he stopped me, “don’t even think about it.” I closed my mouth shut.

Now you’re just making me feel more guilty Jace! I mentally shouted at him as I recalled that royal vampires can mind-read. He laughed out loud at me. Hearing his musical laughter made me relaxed, remembering how everything use to be before I knew the truth about him. Couldn’t we return to how we use to be?

“We could, but would you be able to cope?” he teased invading my thoughts.

“Cheeky!” I threw one of the pillows from beside me at him and he caught it seconds before it managed to hit him. “Oh yeah, I forgot. Superhuman speed,” I crossed my arms in a huff.

“And strength,” he winked at me, lifting the pillow with one hand pretending it was a the heaviest object on earth. I giggled and he joined in with that charming smile of his. Maybe it will work over time.

Jace’s P.O.V

It was getting late as Blake started to constantly yawn within a few minutes of each one. I decided to summon one of the maids to bring her dinner since she’s only taken a few bites of that tiny apple. However, the second I mentioned to Blake about the maid bringing her dinner, horror filled her mind wondering if I was going to have mine too.

“Blake, take it easy. It’s just your dinner, a simple pasta plate - that’s it,” I eased her mind and heard a small sigh as she sunk back down to the bed in relief.

*Can I actual ask?* she pondered to herself.

"Ask what?" I spoke out loud grabbing her attention.

“How or what do you...choose,” she mumbled the words carefully, probably worried if she shouldn’t have asked such a question since it probably freak her out more. I stared at her for a moment, debating on exactly how much I should tell her and how to make it less frightening as possible.

“Well, like most vampires we prefer human blood but I have met some vampires who only drink animal blood, usually they are the ones that were converted not born as a vampire. Different vampires have different acquired taste of human blood, I think this is to do with the blood types as there use to be this tradition that each blood group would be dedicated to different class of vampires. For example: type O was for the commoners, type A or type B was for the duchesses and dukes and type AB are for the royals. But that was many centuries ago, now vampires just go for the smell and taste that they particularly fancy.” I gave a shrug at how our society has changed. As I look back at Blake, I could instantly tell she was troubled by what I just told her but not for the reason I thought she would be worried over.

Chuckling to myself as I heard her thoughts, I brought the question out in the open that was stuck in her mind. “You’re worrying if your blood was not good enough for me? When you should be hoping your blood isn’t my type.”

“Well is it?” she asked timidly, hiding behind one of the pillows. I gave a long sigh before answering  her.

“You have the most addictive, sweet tasting blood I’ve ever tasted. For a moment I thought I was drinking wine than your blood when you offered me your wrist. You should be worried.” I shuffled back further away from her, feeling my body started to get agitated by just the thought of her blood. Even talking about the taste of her blood is making my throat go dry with hunger.

“Jace are you-?” she was about to reach out for me and I immediately jumped off the bed and got in front of the door away from her touch or I would lost control. That was close. I could scene the maid on the other side before she knocked on the door stating that she has Blake’s dinner. I opened the door briefly, grabbed the tray and thanked her before she closed the door again. I placed the tray on the small coffee table by the window as Blake got off the bed and sat down by the cosy armchair and began eating her macaroni and cheese. Throughout the evening I kept my distance from her but still kept a watchful eye on her just incase she tripped or snap one of her stitches again. She would ask me questions on how was life like here as a royal vampire. From time to time I would ask if she was feeling okay, if the sititches or her neck was causing her any pain but she would always reply with a quick 'no' and continue on with her questions that I'd happily answered.

Looking out the window the sky was pitch black with only a few stars and the moon to dimly light the forrest many miles in front of our kingdom. Blake was beginning to drift off to sleep whilst sitting on the chair and it was then I suggested that she’d go to bed. Her face filled with terror once more and I was starting to run out of ideas to prove how safe she was in the palace, it was then I heard Dakota’s thoughts coming through to my mind that I thought of an idea.

“Would you like me to ask Dakota to keep you company though the night? As having me here, you’d probably won’t sleep at all and I can still sense your fear,” I said, feeling a bit hurt that she still thought that I would hurt her but I guess only time can prove that I won’t.

“Dakota’s here?” her face lit up with a smile. I felt a stab of jealousy seeing how happy she was knowing that Dakota was here.

“Yes, she was busy dealing with meetings and assignments today which is why she hasn't pop by to see you. I’ll get her now,” I said and walked out of the room before I called out for Dakota. She was by my side within seconds.

“Is she really okay to see me?” Dakota worried as she fidgeted with the hem of her navy blue dress.

“Yes, she’d rather see you than me. Just keep some distance between the two of you and you’ll be fine,” I told her before she walked in and closed the door behind her. I could hear Blake’s liveliness picking up as Dakota ask her how she was feeling. I walked away without saying 'goodnight' to them as I heard Blake and Dakota giggling to each other.

She only fears me. I am truly a monster in her eyes.
