But alhamdullilah, he had survived. After a few days, Zaafir had come home with Leyla who was pregnant with Zulfiqar. This made Noora soft as she forgave her son. She was ready to accept her grandchild but she held some contempt against her daughter-in-law because she held her accountable for having put her husband on his almost death bed.

Lodi and Noora had an arranged marriage that slowly bloomed into a beautiful passionate love. Lodi cherished Noora and placed her on a throne while he made himself her knight and stood by her side. But to Noora, he was always her King.

They both loved each other crazily. Lodi was a strict and grumpy man, a fierce lion to all, even his children, but a tamed one in front of Noora.

Dada and Dadi got married at the age of 16 and 13 respectively. Lodi was forced to grow up early in order to face the gruesome India under the British's control. His parents had arranged his marriage with Noora, because they were afraid that he'll have no one to look after him if they died, because all of their lives were uncertain. They're community was under attack and they knew they were going to die soon with pride for the country. So in order to protect their children, both the parents had decided to get them married and send them off to some other country. It was a coward move, but they were desperate.

So just like they had planned, Lodi and Noora were married and had escaped to another country. They survived in hiding in a British man's ship for months, with little to nothing left to eat. Lodi had sacrificed most of his food for Noora and yet stood strong. Both of them got down at the first stop and then slowly made a living. Lodi begged while he protected Noora and never let her work. He took care of her like she was his child.

And then eventually he was brought under the wing of a small business man, learned the ropes and made the small business flourish at the age of 21. The man's wife had taught Noora about womanhood and marriage.

The sweet couple couldn't have children but Lodi and Noora were more than enough. Zaafir became their first grandchild, while Soraya was their second.

Sadly, the second time Lodi had had a heart attack, he couldn't survive. The doctor's had warned them to take good care of him after his first attack and not stress him. But how can a father tolerate his little baby girl being abused by her husband and bear to see her scars.

Soraya's husband was a disgusting spineless piece of garbage. He had abused her and had wanted to make profit from having random men have sex with her, but Soraya was strong. She had said enough was enough, ran away and filed a police case. Though she is happy now, with her second husband and three children, she still blames herself for her father's heart attack.

Lodi wasn't able to tolerate his daughter's situation and had blamed himself till he had another attack. His daughter assured him that she didn't blame him and that she loved him more than herself and put his heart at ease with a kiss to his forehead.

When he had felt his end nearing, he laid his head on Noora's chest, listening to her heart beat and inhaled her scent in for the last time ever.

"You smell so good my Jaan (Life). I love you and I will wait for you to join me in jannah." He said as be breathed his last as Noora held him close to her heart, just like he had when she was shivering in the cold streets.

Noora didn't shed a tear till Lodi breathed his last. She knew Lodi hates it when she cries. She knew that her hurting was the only thing that hurt him. So she broke down after he had left her.

But Lodi and Noora's love story has not ended yet for it is to continue from here in their afterlife.

***

I have listened to this story many times and each time I cry like a baby. Noora and Lodi's love story is a legendary one in the family. And I vowed that I would tell this story to mine and Zulfiqar's children so that they can become another Lodi and be like him.

Women usually call their lovers their Romeo but I always call my Zulfiqar 'my Lodi'. He was sweet and loving, just like his great grandfather.

I made a promise to Dadi that our children will always have the name Lodi Khan attached to their name. It was the right thing to do.

"Baby don't cry!" my husband said as he wiped my tears. Thinking of dadi and dada's love story always makes me cry.

So pure and loving.

Dadi misses him and wants to be with him, but she says she's still living in this world to fulfil Lodi Khan's wish of holding his great grandchildren,

And she will, Inshallah (By god's will)!

I know Lodi and Noora's love story has no point to the main story but I wanted to add this great and sweet part and start the book off with a beautiful love story.

Because if my future husband is not like Lodi Khan, I don't want him. In a world where women had no rights and we're treated like slaves, Lodi treated his wife like she was a goddess.

I was the one writing this and yet I was bawling my eyes out imagining how hard it would have been to be separated from the love of your life by death.

I want to be Noora when Lodi was alive but I would hate to be Noora who held her husband's lifeless body in her hands.

Man I'm still sobbing!

Please send help😢😭
