"What the hell happened? Skye?"

And there it was again, the tone of voice that he has come to learn as May's mother voice, a tone that only shows if something happens to Skye, or himself.

"F-Fitz..."

He can hear how Skye starts to speak, her voice broken, and he can hear she doesn't really know what to say in this moment. Taking a deep breath, he decides this will be the perfect time to show up and take control over things.

"Fitz was a klutz again."

He speaks up, walking into the light and he can feel all eyes on him.

"Uh, she's cleaning up the mess. Sorry. It was my fault. I knocked over the lamp when I was taking a sample of Skye's blood with one of those ridiculous hazmat suits on. Uh, I guess my coordination still needs work."

He explains as he walks over to Skye, May and Simmons. Glancing towards Skye, he can see that she is worried about what he is going to say or do, and he can't blame her for that.

"But I was anxious to double-check the results. Her DNA is an exact match to what it was before. She's clear."

He then adds, holding out the tablet he had with him to Simmons so she could see for herself. Seeing and hearing how Simmons let's out a sigh when she takes the tablet.

"Thank god."

She says with a chuckle and from the corner of his eye, he can see that May is relaxing slightly too.

"I'm gonna call Coulson. He can use the good news."

He hears May say before he sees her turn her full attention back to Skye once more.

"You all, right?"

"Yeah."

With a nod of her head, May turns to leave, placing her hand on his shoulder for a few seconds as she walks past him. Seeing how Simmons haven't moved from her spot yet, Leo takes a deep breath before looking at Skye.

"Um, Skye is your bunk made?"

He asks, narrowing his eyes to make sure she will just go with him on this.

"Uh, no. No, it's a mess."

She replies and he can see she's still confused over what is going on.

"Uh, well, maybe you could get her some clean sheets. She should probably sleep."

Leo continues, looking over at Simmons, he can see her lazily looking up from the tablet.

"Yes. You deserve a good night's rest."

She speaks and it looks like she's about to start crying, all for the wrong reasons.

"Yeah, I mean, I... and I would do it, but last time I was in there, there was lots of ladies' things, and she's a slob."

He says and from the corner of his eye he can see Skye narrow her eyes at this, he wasn't wrong, however. He had seen her room in the avengers tower after all.

"I'll help bandage her hands. It was my fault, anyway."

He adds as he starts to open the door into the glass box.

"Okay. Yeah."

He hears Simmons, knowing the tone of voice that she is distracted by her own thoughts. Hearing how she walks out from the lab, he quickly put all his attention towards Skye, going down on his knees in front of her to be able to look over her hand properly.

"What did you just do?"

He hears her ask, keeping her own voice low as she speaks.

"I switched your blood results with your old samples. Now give me your hand."

He tells her, keeping his own voice at the same level. He can hear how she exhales sharply as he starts to clean her wound.

"The new samples are different?"

"Drastically. But until everyone around here calms down, I don't think we should tell anybody what with the way Simmons is acting. For now, we should just keep it between us... keep you sage until we figure it out, okay?"

He tells her and before she has a chance to tell her the next step, Skye has thrown herself around his neck, crying hard.

"It's okay."

He says in a low voice, hugging Skye close to him.

"This is all my fault."

"How?"

"I could have stopped her. I let... I let this happen, and I'm so sorry."

Hearing how her voice breaks as she speaks, he hurts. It all brings back memories from when he had found her in her closet in the Avengers tower and he hates seeing her like this.

"No, it's okay."

"No, everything's my fault. You're right. There's something very wrong with me."

He hates this very much and all he wants to do is hide her away from everything that is going on.

"No, you're just different now. You're just different now, and there's nothing wrong with that."

He tells her, pulling her closer to before pushing her away from him, eyes narrowed.

"For now, you need to leave."

He adds and he can see how her eyes turn into surprise and hurt and he realises he should have formulated that a lot better.

"Before I returned, I called Maria. She and Natasha are on their way to the meeting point. Until things have settled here, and they will be able to help you understand this newfound ability."

He tells her, and Skye's eyes grow big out of surprise. It was clear that she had not thought about the possibility to return to the Avengers. Leo rises once more, leaves the glass box and heads for the lab, to pick up the second tablet, a tablet that holds every information Maria and the Avengers will need. Returning to the glass box, he sees that Skye has risen from the floor.

"Take this, give it to Maria. It has everything you all need to know. I would recommend you leave now before anyone starts to ask questions about where you are."

He tells her and Skye pulls him into a tight hug once more.

"Thank you, Leo."

"I'm always going to be here to protect you, Skye! Not matter what! Now go! I'll call you tomorrow!"

He orders, letting go of the hug. Seeing Skye take a deep breath, she takes the tablet from him and starts to walk out of the lab. Looking after her, Leo can't help to wounder if he has made the right decision. Shaking his head, he knows very well that Skye will be in good hands. The Avengers did an amazing work after her operation after all.
