Chapter Nine: The Trouble With Life Is There's No Background Music

Start from the beginning

I snap around towards Zander, his lips where pulled in a line and you could see the flames alit behind his green eyes.

"As does Nick Bridgette!" Zander growls, his hands untangle and his hand goes to head, rubbing his forehead. "He enjoys his insanity..." His voice gets lower, "He enjoys it more than one should ever enjoy anything."

I narrow my eyes at him and shrug. "That may be true." I place my hands on the table beside me, holding onto the sides. I look to Alec, because I know he understands my words.

"But we all enjoy a little bit of insanity sometimes." I mumble slamming my hands down before crossing my arms behind my back. "Insanity can be liberating, freeing... Or it can overpower you. Take over everything you were." I look around the room, "Insanity is not curable." I bite down on my lip suddenly feeling semiconscious because NOW everyone was looking at me. "But it's tamable, Sometimes one can tame themselves. Others need help."

"You're right." Colin nods.

"Colin!- Derek starts but Colin holds up his hands stopping him.

"Nick has gotten help, and he's doing better. I saw it for myself." He steps toward me, "But knowing what he did. What he did to you, what I saw him almost do to you... It doesn't matter who he is now. We will all always look at him the way we would have them. He might have changed, but we haven't changed. We see him for who he really is, not who the medicine makes him."

"Medicine doesn't 'make' you anything!" I snap, angered again. "It shows you who you really are. And then you know and you live, then after a while. You won't need them."

"You said it wasn't curable." Colin turns toward me.

"Its not, just because an alcoholic hasn't picked up a drink in over twelves years doesn't mean she's stopped being an alcoholic it means she got help! But she's always going to struggle with it, she just continuously over comes it. It's the same thing!"

Colin opens his mouth to respond but Derek stands.

"Enough!"

"No!" I glare hard at him, I push myself off the table and walk toward my desk sitting behind it.

Derek glances over his shoulder to me before pushing himself off the front. He walked a few steps away and turned towards me. His arms still crossed and he was still ignoring my gaze.

"Here's what you all aren't understanding!" I snap, frowning. "Alpha Blake Blackstone has declared war on every pack that stands between him and whatever his goals are." I look away, pondering about how to word this. I pause again before speaking, "Alpha Blackstone is wrong, what he's doing it wrong. But war isn't about who's right. It doesn't determine who's right either." I look up at them, "War determines who's left!"

Everyone looks at me, as if they didn't know who I was.

And the truth was, at this moment. I didn't know who I was either.

I throw my arms out, "And at this moment, we aren't going to be who's left. We do not have the advantage. Why can't you see that! We don't know their numbers, how strong they are, what their game plan, we do not know what he's after. We need this information. That pack hasn't made any big moves in over twenty years, and now they're making their play. And we aren't ready!"

Derek finally looks to me, and steps toward me, "Bridgette-

"No! We only have two option, and I suggest we do both. But we have to be open minded and take risks."

Derek shakes his head slightly, "Bridgette-

"Don't!" I slam my fist down, "Derek we have to!"
