I took the whistle from Maria and blew it, he turned around looking at me
"Excuse me sir, I don't know your signal" I said with a smirk on my face.
"You and Fräulein Maria may call me Captain" he said and continued walking. I heard the kids laugh and looked over at them with a tiny smile. My eyes met the oldest boy's, Friedrich, I believe, he smiled at me and I smiled back.
"At ease, we'll now that is just us, would you please tell me your names and how old you are?" Maria asks sweetly
The one I suspect is the oldest steps forward and starts:
"I'm Liesl. I'm 16 and I don't need a governess" she said
'Why so rude?' I thought to myself
The next boy stepped forward and said
"I'm Friedrich, I'm 14 years old and I'm impossible."
"Oh really who told you that huh?" I asked without thinking
"Fräulein Josephine, 4 governesses ago" he said like it was the biggest accomplishment ever.
"Right" I said with a smirk, he just looked at not knowing if he should be annoyed or smile at me.
"I'm Brigitta"
"You didn't tell us how old you are Louisa" I said to her, she looked down, Maria nudged me and motioned with her hands that I should calm down. I get that a lot even tho I'm a sweet and kind girl I may have some anger issues.
"I'm Brigitta. She's Louisa, she's 13 and you're smart." Brigitta said while smiling kindly at me.
"I'm 10 and I think your dress is the ugliest one I ever saw" she said looking at Maria, Maria chuckled.
"Brigitta you shouldn't say that" Kurt told her, he looked like the one kid all the parents and teachers love, but let's not jump to conclusions, he might kick my ass one day, just kidding I would break him.
"Why not don't you think it's ugly?"
"Of course, but Fräulein Hilda's was the ugliest. I'm Kurt, I'm 11, I'm incorrigible" he said
"Congratulations" Maria said
"What's incorrigible?" He asked to check if Maria knew.
"I think it means you want to be treated like a boy" she said
She then looked over at a small girl with dark hair.
"I'm Marta I'm gonna be 7 on Tuesday, and I'd like a pink parasol" she said smiling
"Well pink is my favourite colour too" Maria answered
The last one stomps her foot
"Oh yes and your Gretl, and you're five years old?" The girl nods her head
"My, you're practically a lady" I say, she's smiling with the biggest smile ever, she was so cute
"Oh Lia why don't you introduce yourself?" Maria said
"Oh right, I'm Ophelia or Lia works too, and I'm 14 years old"
"For how long have you been living with Fräulein Maria?, how did your parents die? Are you a nun?" Brigitta asked
"Brigitta let's not ask too personal questions." Friedrich said while looking at me
I smile at him then answer
"Well since I was 11, they died in a car accident, and well I do pray and live at the abbey, but I'm not following all the rules" I said with a wink
Then Maria says:
"Guys I have a secret... I've never been a governess before"
"You mean you know nothing about being one?" Louisa asks with a smug smile on her face
"No I'll need lots of advice"
The kids started telling her all wrong things like she should always eat her soup loudly and never come to dinner in time and all like that.
'Trying to get rid of us so fast' I thought
"Don't you believe them Fräulein Maria" Gretl says
"Why not?"
"Because I like you" god wasn't she cute
Then a lady comes out clapping telling the children to go outside. Her name was Frau Schmidt.
She tells us to follow her to our rooms, I saw that the children were waiting in the door watching us, right then Maria screams and drops her stuff. She then pulls out a frog and it lands in my hands, I simply just walk over to the door and set it free. When I turn around my eyes once again meet Friedrich's, but this times I didn't smile.
"You're lucky, with Fräulein Helga it was a snake" she said, the kids then run out.
