Here I am, lying in this bed alone. Another night without your touch. Another night in the dark crying myself to sleep. Who am I supposed to turn to now? You were more than my lover, you were my best friend, my confidant, my salvation. Yet, you walk out on me, leaving me to fend on my own. When all I've ever known was YOU.7:38 a.m. flashes as I'm suddenly woken from my slumber. The bed shifts next to me, as flickers of the night before crosses my mind. The memories flood me like the way he took control of every curve on my body. The way he held me through the night was unlike no other, yet he's still not you.
"Good morning, sunshine." This unnamed man who sat across from me uttered. Damn, he doesn't even know my name. I bet he thinks I'm some kind of whore. Giving it all up on the first night. Who am I kidding? I needed a reason. A reason to get over the pain. A reason to escape. A reason to move on from the shadows of YOU.
"Good morning..." I started staring into the depths of his dark brown eyes, as I awaited his name.
"The names Grant."
" Grant, right!" I nodded "What the fuck happened last night?" I inquire as I get up from the bed to go relieve myself from the night in question. I must admit, this man is very handsome. Maybe the most attractive person that I have crossed paths with since you left me. But how did we get to this point?
Majority of the night was a blur, and all I can remember were the events of hours prior. As the water pour down my body the shower door opens and I feel his presence. His hands turn and pick me up. Placing me against the wall. Five months, and this is the first time I've felt the conviction of a man. He was doing everything right. Still I couldn't let this go any further.
"We have to stop!" I protest as I climb down from him.
"You know you don't wanna stop, com'mer." he said seductively, almost trapping me in his words. Oh he's good, but I am better. I curve the offer. Remembering all that I have to do today, I quickly wash off and hope out the shower.
"So you really don't remember why I'm here do you?" he asked as he walked into my room. I shake my head no as continue to get dressed. I search around for my phone. When it find it, I walk him to the door to let him out.
The vibration of my phone going off in my hand could only mean one thing. I'm late! I look at the phone and see the text from my best asking me where I am. I quickly replied I that am at home and that she should stop by and pick me up because I didn't feel like driving.
I get in the car and hug Yemaya. When I finally got settled and we hit the road , I was bombarded with questions.
"What the fuck happened to you last night?" She questioned as she whipped around the corner, catching me off guard.
"What you mean?" I ponder . "And watch the road please, as much as I don't like jails, I would love to see 23!" I joked but serious at the same time. I love her, but the girl couldn't drive to save her life.
"You were next to me all night then out of nowhere you were gone!" She yell. "You drunk more than you normally would. It's a good thing I made you turn on your location. I don't know what I'd do if I lost you too."
I stare at her and then I start piecing the night together. We went out for drinks to get our minds off of meeting with detective John Hawkins. When I had to pee. On my way to the restroom, I bumped into HIM and his drink spilled all over me. I said my apologies and so did he, as he followed me in to help me clean the mess. I couldn't find Yemaya, and in sober mind I wouldn't ask a complete stranger to take me home. The car ride was filled with talks of passion. Like I said the man was a smooth talker, so I invented him in."Yea some unexpected things happened." I say, thinking about the events of the night before
We pulled up to the precinct, and to say I was nervous was an understatement. These last couple of months have been the absolute hardest. Because I still don't know what happened to you, Ivan.
