More and more people came onto the wooden boat as I attempted to calm my brother down. He was hollering at nearby guards, telling them how worthless they were and so on. My mother was weeping, my father keeping us close. As the boat began to flood up with people, I feared that the titans would smell the crowd and come our way. Terrance had always said they had such capabilities. My family was beginning to get cramped in the boat as people came in. As I looked out to the ocean of people, I saw my brother's friends. I'm guessing my mother saw my relieved expression.
" Hey Terrance, aren't those your friends? Eren, Mikasa and Armin, wasn't it? " Her voice cracked as she asked my brother. He looked up, nodding as I took notice of Eren's expression. His eyes were wide, staring at the ground underneath him. He seemed petrified as he walked onto the boat alongside Mikasa and Armin. He must have seen something horrible. I thought, watching them sit not too far away from us. A soldier in the Garrison blocked off the rest of the crowd, people starting to beg to be let on the boat. I held my brother close as the we began to move, on-lookers attempting to jump on at the last minute. I looked away and watched as we followed the stream leading inside of Wall Maria. I dared not to look back at the people we were leaving behind.
My life changed from then on out. I always remembered to value every moment with my family, so I wouldn't have as many regrets if something similar happened in the future. My family and I managed to move to a house deep within Wall Rose. My father had always held a grudge on himself for running away when the walls were breached, and promised us he would protect us better from then on. Starting over in a completely new location was hard, especially since the people of Wall Rose despised us, saying that we were a waste of space and that we used up their food supply. I learned to ignore the insults, but my brother did otherwise. He would glare at the people who mocked us and tell them to shut their mouths, but I would always have to drag him out. His rebellious spirit reminded me of Eren's, always fighting for what he believed was right. " How many times do I need to tell you to ignore those people? " I would always tell him, bringing him home and calming him down. Mother and Father would always scold him for engaging with the townsfolk in such a manner. Time passed, and my skills in aid continuously improved gradually, and I finally had the guts to enroll myself into the Scout Regiment's Nurse Association.
" I'm back! " I called out, closing the wooden door behind me.
" How'd it go? Was there some sort of test or something?! " Terrance ran to me and tacked me with a huge hug.
" Sorta. I had to show them what I was capable of and fill out a registration form but that's about it bud. " My family began to flood around me.
" Your most certainly going to get in, darling. " My mother smiled at me.
" Dinner is ready at the table, Tiffany. " My father lead us to the dining room. I sat down in my chair, taking off my shawl as a warm meal was placed in front of me.
" They'd be absurd to not accept someone as great in the medical field as you! " My mother sat down across from me, pouring tea into small cups.
" The results will be posted on a board in town square tomorrow. " My father said, sipping his herbal tea.
" I'm so nervous. What if they don't accept me? " I said, fumbling around with my fork.
''I'm more than positive they will, Tiffany. You're amazing at treating people and you know it. " My brother said, handing me a cup of tea.
" Thanks. " I said, warming up my hands with the warm steam.
" I'm gonna head to bed after dinner if you guys don't mind. I want to rest up for tomorrow, because if I get the job, they expect me to train after we read the results. " I said, drinking my beverage.
" Well, hurry up then. You want to be as rested as you can be for your first day in training. " My mother said, serving me some bread. I quickly finished up and said goodnight to everyone, going to my room and getting ready to sleep. I prayed to whatever gods were out there, pleading to get the opportunity at such a good future. I closed my eyes as I laid down, sleep immediately washing over me as I said my last, hopeful prayers.
That morning, I woke up earlier than usual, jumping to get ready and see the results. With butterflies in my stomach, I packed up my lunch and bid farewell to my family. I was terribly nervous as I made my way to the board, running past carriages and passing drunk guards on the way. When I arrived in town square, I saw a bunch of women crowding a specific area. I carefully made my way over, examining the board. Everyone was mostly surrounding a long scroll with the Wings of Freedom on it. People either sighed or cheered after reading the paper, making me more anxious than I already was. A good friend I had made within Wall Rose, Emmeline, who also had interest in becoming a nurse, waited for me next to the ocean of people.
" Hey Tiffany! Guess what?! I got in! " She hugged me tightly.
" Congratulations, Emme! I really hope I got in, too. '' I said, making my way into the crowd. I began to search for my name, adrenaline pumping in my veins. I traced my finger down the paper, Emmeline waiting anxiously behind me. My eyes went wide as my finger reached my name. Tiffany Le'Varge. I leaped up in joy and tackled Emmeline, shouting,
" I got in! I got in! '' She smiled as I let her go bounced, bouncing around her.
'' I was trying not to ruin the surprise! " She laughed. " Let's hurry and make our way to the training area. We don't want to be late! " She smiled, grabbing my hand in a hurry. A huge smile covered my face..
I was one step closer to a brighter future.
