Chapter 79.) Bury Your Demons

Start from the beginning

"No!" she pushed his hand away as she tried to catch her breath.

"Bab-"

"Stay your ass away from me!" gathering her composure, she rushed into the closet and grabbed the first pair of sweats she saw.

"Ava... let me explain," he tried to follow her into the closet but she backed up.

"Stay away from me!" she screamed. She was so confused. Overwhelmed. Her brain was trying to help her process what just happened but the fear was resting on her shoulder and singing to her.

"Hold up," he grabbed her hand when she attempted to run, "Hear me out."

"You... you..." unable to get her words out in between breaths, she shoved him back and doubled over trying to breathe.

"Told you to show her the real you sooner," the demon on his shoulder laughed. "Now look."

Lucky closed his eyes, "Shut up."

"What?" Ava quipped, standing slowly.

"Choke her," it urged.

"You know you want toooo," it laughed wickedly.

Taking a deep breath, Lucky stared at her then shook his head, "Can we sit?"

"Un-uh," she backed up, looked around then grabbed the glass bottle of cologne off the shelf.

Lucky's head lowered and he laughed to himself, "What tha' hell she gon' do with dat?"

Ava's head cocked, "What tha' hell did you forget to tell me about you?"

"Baby girl," he lifted his head and stared at the cologne, "What'd you gon' do with dat?"

"You wanna see?"

Lucky smirked, leaning against the wall, "Nah."

"Well?!" she flung her hand up, "Explain."

"Can you at least come out and sit?"

"You almost killed me!" she shrieked, "I'm staying right her- stay right fucking there!" she backed up further into the closet when he began walking toward her.

"You gon' hit me?" the life in his eyes quickly faded and Ava swallowed hard.

"M-Maybe," she looked around then backed up when he moved forward. "Lucky... seriously... just stop," she began to panic as she backed into the wall.

Lucky stopped moving and stared at her with his head cocked, "Ava."

"No," she closed her eyes and held up her shaky hand, "I am confused, ok? I can't... just leave me alone," she dropped the cologne and tried to make a run for it but Lucky grabbed her.

Her body went into fight or flight mode and she began kicking and screaming as she grabbed onto the clothes that were hanging up as he struggled to lift her.

"GET OFF OF ME!" she began swinging but Lucky grabbed her arms and pushed her.

Stumbling into the clothes, Ava tried to regain her footing and run but Lucky's hand locked around her neck.

"Lu- Lucky," she gasped, clawing at his arms, "Please."

"Shut up!" he yelled at the voice then tightened his grip.

Ava's eyes widened and her hands began to slow down as her feet stopped moving. Lucky's eyes darkened the tighter he squeezed and when her body went limp, he released her.

Her body hit the floor. Lucky's hands shook as he stared at her lifeless body, "Ava?" the life returned to his eyes, "Ava?!" he fell to his knees and shook her.

Touching her cheek, he frantically shook his head, "No... Ava! AVA!"

"Lucky!"

Jumping out of his sleep, Lucky looked down then at Ava in confusion.

Ava stared at him nervously and backed up, "Um... you ok?"

Looking around when the sounds of waves cut into his thoughts, Lucky placed his hand over his racing heart and backed up, "What tha' fuck?"

"Luck?" she stepped further on the patio, "Hey, what's wrong?"

"What tha' fuck?" Lucky repeated as he massaged his temple and tried to come to terms with the nightmare. Was it a nightmare or was it a message?

Ava walked over and placed her hand on his back as gripped the rail for dear life, "You're scaring me."

She was scared? Lucky was petrified!

"Lucky?"

"Was I asleep?" he asked the obvious. He was so confused.

Ava nodded, touching his forehead, "You're burning up... what happened?"

"Wish I fuckin' knew," he closed his eyes and lowered his head. He couldn't get the image of her lifeless body out of his head.

"Fuck!" the unexpected rage startled Ava and she jumped back.

"Lucky?"

"I'm sorry," he shook his head and kicked the bar, "I'm sorry," he repeated over and over as the tears began to fall.

Scared, Ava wanted to run but knew she shouldn't. Instead, she hugged him as he just kept apologizing for something she had no idea of.

"I'm sorry, I'm so fucking sorry!" he fell to his knees and clung to her.

Lucky hadn't felt this way in years and wanted so desperately to fight it but her body failed him. Exposed him. He was vulnerable. Wide-open and there was nothing he could do. His heart was aching. He couldn't breathe. The tears were flowing and he just wanted everything to stop!

Ava was overwhelmed and scared to move or say anything but what was she supposed to do at this moment? She's never seen him like this and he seemed so broken. Distraught. What was she to do?

"Lucky... talk to me, please," she began to cry when he started balling his eyes out.

"I'm sorry... Ava, I'm sorry," he cried harder. "You gotta go."

Ava's heart dropped, "H-huh?"

"Go!" he shoved her back.

Confused, Ava stared at him as the tears stained her face. What this real? "What did I do?"

"Get out!" he yelled, "Please!"

Jumping, she opened her mouth to speak but got choked up and rushed inside. Struggling to see through her tears, her foot slipped once she reached the middle of the stairs and took a hard tumble back. Trying to catch herself with the railing, her head hit the floor before her body. Her heart began to beat irregularly as she tried to move and keep her eyes open but couldn't.

Across town, King was trying to take his ass to sleep after loving on Renae but she kept calling his name. "Renae... go to sleep."

"Your phone is going crazy, King," she said.

"Lordddd," he grumbled, reaching over and grabbing his phone, "Yo?"

"Mr. Stone?" Kayla whispered.
