14. time for dinner

Start from the beginning

You had figured. Making this a very important subject, even more important that the proposal itself. "Isa, let's discuss this, alright ? I just need to get down..."

You panicked as you heard no answer. She was probably gone, and you were only halfway through the tree. She had tricked you.

"ISABELA !" you yell in a desperate attempt to make her come back, not realizing your grip on the branch you were holding was wrong. You fall to the ground with a grunt.

"That hurts like hell. ISABELA !"

___

"Dolores. I need to find Dolores."

You were walking towards Casita as fast as you could, your back still hurting from your fall. Today had seriously tired you out : climbing thousands of stairs with Mirabel, being crushed under tones of sand, and falling through the branches of a tree.

The worst part was still Miguel's confession.

As you neared the house, you frowned as you heard a voice singing.

"A SEVEN FOOT FRAME, RATS ALONG HIS BACK..."

"What..." you quicken your pace, recognizing Camilo's voice. What was going on again ?

"We don't talk about Bruno, no, no, no..."

Bruno ? Was Mirabel behind this ? Did she find out what the vision was about ?

Suddenly, Mirabel was next to you, grabbing your hand as a woman stood before you, brandishing a fish bowl. A golden fish was floating at the surface.

"He told me my fish would die, the next day... DEAD !"

"Wow that's rough." you ironize, a man already taking her place to sing about his gut.

"He said that all my hair would disappear, now look at my head !" A man took of his wig, revealing his baldness.

"Terrible." you comment, pushing Mirabel behind you as they surrounded you.

"Your fate is sealed when your prophecy is read !" they sung threateningly, and suddenly you were back in the courtyard of Casita.

"He told me that the life of my dream, would be promised and someday be mine..."

You cross your arms as you finally see Isabela, sitting on a swing of hanging vines. The life of her dreams ? It seemed to you she was far from it, and not going the right way to make it happen.

"Óye, Mariano's on his way !" You could hear Abuela scream from afar. Fuck.

"He told me that the man of my dreams would be just out of reach, betrothed to another..."

Good news : you had found Dolores.

Bad news : she had never told you about Bruno's vision ? You were outraged. Alright, we don't talk about Bruno, but she could have at least sung about it ?

Still, you respected her choice. Sometimes some things are too hard to talk about. You understood why she didn't seem that touched by the proposal : she must have known it would happen for long, the threat of it happening towering over her for years.
