2 - Clock's Ticking

Start from the beginning

"It's not us I'm worried about, you bastard. It's the kid."

"I doubt the kid will have the energy to put up a fight against you, after everything they've done to him.", I shook my head. As if a 14 year old was going to put up a fight against me. Or Rake.

"Enough talk, the clock is ticking. Time to go.", Yaz spoke up and everybody started to move in different directions. Tyler and I walked out together. His eyes were burning on my cheek, but as I had done before, I ignored him.

_____________

DHAKA, BANGLADESH

"I don't understand why I can't go in instead. Rake is gonna join me later anyway.", I said as I was strapping the rifle to my body. My gun in my belt. G sighed and grabbed his sniper.

"These men don't value women, Jane. And sending you in wouldn't be exactly... safe. Not that I wouldn't send you in, you know very well I would.", I nodded, understanding what he meant. In the past multiple missions, I was sent in first and Rake came later in to finish off.

"It's alright, mate.", I muttered and turned around. Once I did, I regretted it. G walked away to inspect the area quickly.

"Hey there. G found the spot yet?"

"He just walked away to inspect it.", Tyler nodded and looked at the area as well.

"You're tense Jane. I've told you, there's nothing to worry about. We've done this multiple times and each time it went well.", I sighed at his words and leaned against the car.

"You continued doing this. And I stopped after... You know.", I blinked quickly once I felt my eyes fill up with tears. His silence disappointed me, even though I wasn't sure of what I was expecting from him anyway. This was strict business and personal issues were to be out of this. We were both aware of that.

"My gut. I have a bad feeling. 's all.", I wrapped my arms around myself and sighed. He took a step forward and lifted my chin up. I grasped his wrist and slowly moved it away from my face. My gaze on his dirty military boots.

"We need to act quickly and carefully. Like we've always done. It'll be over before you know it. If it helps, think about the things you'll buy with the money you're gonna get.", a small smile appeared on his lips, making mine twitch as well.

"I guess."

Fortunately G came back quickly, since it was slowly starting to get awkward.
"Alright. Rake whenever you feel ready.", G walked back to us. Tyler and I exchanged looks, before he nodded.

"Ya got everything?", he nodded and hid his gun in his belt, under his shirt.

"Alright. I'm goin'."

"Good luck, Rake.", G nodded at him and started walking away. I followed him without saying a word.

_____________

"Once you hear gunshots, you know it's time.", G said absentmindedly to me. He was focused on the view before him, so was I.

"Yeah.", the snipers were set on the small wall in front us. The spot G had chosen was good, because the building was fairly hidden from the other, yet it gave us a good view of the opposite men.

"Was this really the first time seeing Rake after..."

I froze at his words and sighed noticing I had lost focus. "Anybody else that noticed?"

"Nobody. Just José, Thiago, Sveva—"

"Basically everybody.", I rolled my eyes at his words, I noticed a small smile forming on his lips.
