First day of school

Lots of toys, kids playing together, books, and there's a sand box!

I look at up at Will and Jay and start wiggling out of Jay's arms. They both chuckle a little. I look around the room on awe as my new teacher comes up and talks to Jay and Will.

"Alright munchkin we gotta go to work." Will says. "Have a good day! Behave!"

I turn around quickly. "You have to leave?" I ask quietly. This place looks fun but I don't want to leave my brothers.

Will sighs. "Yeah honey, we gotta go to work." He says.

I nod and frown a little bit. I look up at Jay. "You gotta go to?" I ask Jay.

Jay nods. "I do squirt.. I'll be back at 3:00 to pick you up though."

I nod sadly before making grabby hands to both of them. They chuckle a bit while Will picks me up hugging me tightly. Next was Jay.

I pull away from Jay and he sets me on the floor. "Have fun alright? I'll be back here by 3:00 to pick you up!" Jay says.

"Okay Jay Jay! Love you!" I say.

"Love you too Katie! Bye." Jay says before walking out of the room.

I wave at him then turn to Will.

"Alright see you later squirt! Have fun!" Will says.

"I will! Bye Will!" I say.

"Bye honey." Will says before walking out.

I sigh and turn to the class. A girl with glasses and long brown hair comes up to me.

"Hi! I'm Kenzie! Want to be friends?" She asks.

"Sure! I'm Katie." I say.

She smiles. "You want to go play with the dolls?" She asks.

I nod before we both run over to the doll house.

*Jay's POV*

I arrive at the district 5 minutes late and rush upstairs.

"Halstead! Why are you late?" Hank asks instantly upon seeing me.

"Sorry sarge.. today was Katie's first day of school and it was a bit of a struggle." I say honestly.

He nods. "I remember that day with Justin... He did not want to go." He says with a slight chuckle.

I laugh a little. "She wanted to come here with me instead of going to school.. she didn't seem too pleased when Will and I had to leave her."

The team laughs before we get down to work on a case.

"Oh by the way sarge! Is it ok if I pick her up at 3 then bring her back here with me?" I ask.

"Yeah sure Halstead!" He says while closing his office door.

By the time 2:30 rolls around we haven't gotten very far on the case. I sigh before grabbing my jacket and keys.

I knock on Voights door before telling him that I got to go pick up Katie.

I arrive at the school and walk in going straight to kindergarten where I see parents leaving with their kids. I walk in the room to see Katie giggling away with 2 other girls.

*Katies POV*

I'm sitting at a table laughing at a funny story Ashley and Kenzie just told. I turn around to see if Jay's here and see him walking into the room.

"Jay Jay!" I jump off my chair and run over into Jay's awaiting arms. He picks me up and spins me around while peppering kisses on my cheek.

I giggle while wiping my cheek.

We grab my bag and I wave bye to everyone while we walk out of the classroom.

"How was school squirt?" Jay asks while putting me into his truck.

"It was so much fun Jay Jay! I made two fwiends! We played with dolls. I colorded a picture! Nap time was fun too." I say with a big smile on my face.

Jay chuckles before he starts driving. "That sounds like a really fun day honey!" He says.

I smile while looking out the window. "Jay Jay are we going home now?" I ask.

"Sorry squirt but I still have work so your gonna have to sit there for a bit." Jay says.

"Okay!" I say.

We arrive at the district and Jay helps me out of my seat. I grab his hand before we start walking inside. Jay puts his hand through the scanner and opens the doors. We walk upstairs still hand in hand. When we reach the top everyone looks up from their desks and smile slightly.

Hank comes it if his office after seeing noone working and looks over at us. "How was school kiddo?" Hank asks.

"Good!" I say and start a whole story about school letting him lead me into his office so they can continue on the case.

After telling Hank all about my day I start yawning.

He chuckles a little bit. "School tire you out sweetie?" He asks.

I nod and make grabby hands toward him. He laughs and picks me up setting me on his lap.

I grab his shirt in my fist and snuggle my head into his chest before falling asleep. Hank is like a dad to me. Ever since meeting him, he's looked after me if Jay and Will aren't around.

*Jay's POV*

Katie started telling Hank all about her day while he leads her into his office giving us a slight nod telling us to go make a bust.

I smile a little after watching how much of a father figure Hank is to Katie. I'm very thankful for that.

We make the bust and arrive back at the district at 5:30. We make our way upstairs and clear off the board before starting paperwork. I don't see Katie anywhere so I assume she's still in Hanks office.

I'm just about finished my paperwork when Hanks office door opens and he comes out carrying a sleeping Katie. "Good job today guys! Go home. Jay... She's exhausted!" Hank says with a chuckle.

I laugh a little before getting up and throwing my jacket on before carefully lifting Katie out of Hanks arms and into my own.

"Thanks for watching her while we were gone sarge!" I say.

He nods before returning to his office. Hank is tough on the outside to everyone. He's never had a soft spot for anyone until he met Katie.

I mean how could he not? I look down at her sleeping form in my arms. She moved herself around a little so her head is resting on my shoulder, her one hand is gripping my shirt, and her thumb from her other hand is in her mouth.
