A snort escaped Jess's lips. "You're forgiven."

Selina noticed the bruises and anger surged within her. "That son of a bitch really locked you in a barrel?" She shook her head. "I'll kill him if I ever see him."

"He did a lot worse to me," Jess muttered.

"What do you mean?" Selina asked, her brows furrowed. Jess's face briefly showed shame before it disappeared. "Did he rape you?"

Without a response, Selina moved from the edge of the mattress to sit beside Jess.

"It was so bad, Selina..." Jess cried, hiding her face behind her hands. "I could feel everything, and it hurt so bad." Selina wrapped her arm around Jess's shoulder, providing comfort. "I'm disgusting."

"No," Selina growled, pointing her finger at Jess's tear-streaked face. "No, you are not. That crazy-ass lunatic is a disgusting piece of shit. You are a strong-willed woman who will not be taken down by someone like him, do you understand?" She grabbed Jess's cheeks firmly. "Yeah?"

"Yeah..." Jess squeaked out.

Selina smiled triumphantly. "Okay, I should go now before they check in on you." She wiped away Jess's tears with the back of her hand and, without thinking, planted a kiss on Jess's lips, startling her. "Sorry, baby." She winked. "Let that be a step on your path to healing."

"I hate you," Jess grumbled, rolling her eyes.

"I can give you another one," Selina teased, wiggling her eyebrows. "But I don't think Vengeance would be too happy about that."

Jess pursed her lips. "You're just going to do it anyway."

"You're right," Selina said, kissing Jess on her chapped lips once again. "I will, and I'll do it as often as I like because you're my little gay disaster." She kissed her again. With each kiss, Jess seemed to forget about her predicament, as Selina didn't give her a chance to dwell on it.

Now a blushing mess, Jess pointed to the window. "Out!" She glared at Selina.

"I'm going," Selina chuckled, not before giving Jess one final kiss, this time on the crown of her head. "Stay strong, Justice."

Jess watched as Selina escaped through the window, closing it behind her before jumping down to the grass, leaving no trace of her presence.

Just in time, the door to Jess's room slammed open, startling her. In a state of fear, she grabbed the nearest object, a plastic spork from her untouched food tray, ready to defend herself.

What she was going to do with it was beyond her, but she had seen Keanu Reeves kill someone with a number two pencil enough times to attempt something.

Bruce stormed into the small hospital room, his expression wild. Two officers standing guard followed, their guns aimed at anything that caught their eyes first.

When they saw Jess's fear-stricken face and the spork she held out, they tried to calm down.

She was safe.

"I'm sorry." Bruce's voice rang out. The dramatic entrance he did made him look utterly ridiculous, something that Jess would have poked fun at already, and Bruce knew she was way off from the glazed look in her eye.

She was trapped in an endless replay of her horrific week, and the last person she wanted to know about what happened to her was the six-foot walking vengeance crusader.

Jess did her best to pull the blue hospital blanket over her shoulders to hide her bruised skin as if he hadn't seen it already.

"We'll be right outside." Officer Morrison said, kicking the other officer out to give Jess and Batman some space.
