I WOKE UP, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, BY A CRYING SOUND.

I turned around seeing a disheveled Eddie; his bed-hair all over the place, tear-stained cheeks and a mess of covers around the bed.

"Eddie, baby, what's going on?" I asked, scooting closer to his trembling figure.

I caressed his back softly, as he immediately jumped into my arms.

He wrapped his long arms around my torso, and buried his head in my chest.

"Woah!" I muttered, placing a hand on his head and another on his back. "Hey. t's okay." I reassured, not moving an inch as he sniffled repeatedly, some sobs escaping his mouth every now and then.

After a couple of minutes he pulled away from me. His puffy eyes bored into mine, as I raised my hands to wipe the tears away.

"Wanna tell me what happened?" I asked softly, as he nodded.

"I-I saw a nightmare." He said, tears streaming down his face again, as he reminisced about the bad dream. "You... You died. In the Upside Down. And I c-couldn't protect you." He sniffled again, turning away from me and looking at a spot on the floor.

"Oh Eddie." I said, coming behind him and wrapping my arms around him, as I kissed his cheek and shoulders.

Those nightmares had become a habit of us both, over the last couple of months.

A nasty habit that was the result of our days fighting Vecna in the Upside Down.

And that specific night.

We stayed like that, non of us saying a word, as we didn't want to and didn't really know what to say either.

We were content, for the time being.

Eddie's breathing and heartbeat had slowed down, his sniffles were reduced, and his red eyes had grown heavy yet again.

I slowly, placed him down on the bed, covered him with the thin blanket, and fell besides him, spooning him, like a big baby.
Suddenly he turned around and pulled me into him.

"Promise you'll never leave me." He muttered in my hair.

"I promise Eddie. I'm here. I'm right here. And I always will be."

I snuggled into him, my legs intertwining with his, as we hugged eachother close. So close our bodies were almost a single one.

I just wish I could relieve him of those nightmares forever.

The rest of the night was calm, and next morning, as if something changed overnight, we were closer than ever.

If that was even possible.
