Chapter 15: The Beginning

Start from the beginning

Principal Hughs: Oh my! I'm not sure this is really a police matter.

Vice Principal Isa: Fine. Do it your way. Just don't blame me when this entire school ends up descending into anarchy.

Ms. Isa spins on a heel and strides away.

Principal Hughs: As for you, young man, please go. You've caused quite a few hurt feelings here!

Brian: Actually, I'm feeling kind of nostalgic. Maybe I'll stick around and do some dancing. I am single now. Okay, ladies. Who wants to get up on this?

Couple of berry female students who are chuckling or in disbelief.

Berry female student #1: Boy, please.

Principal Hughs: Mr. Crandall, since you are neither a Berry student nor the official guest of a Berry student, I must ask you to leave at once!

Brian: Oh yeah? Who's gonna make me? You, Mary Poppins?

Frank: No....

Brian turns and is confronted by Frank.

Frank: But I will!

Principal Hughs: Oh goody! Frank the Bouncer! There you are!

Brian: Frank the Bouncer?

Frank: Do you like my new nickname? Doesn't rhyme, I'm afraid, but it has a certain ring to it.

Brian: I, uh....

Brian bolts for the door without another word.

Payton: Frank....that was amazing!

Frank does a small bow.

Principal Hughs: Okay, everyone, back to your sock hop! Frank and I will make sure there aren't any more scary boys intruding!

'Shining Star' by Earth, Wind, and Fire starts to play and people gradually start dancing again. Sammie join Emma at the side of the dance floor.

Sammie: You okay, Emma?

Emma: You know, even though he treated me like dirt, I kinda feel sorry for Brian.

Sammie: Honestly Emma, me too. Being selfish and jealous all the time seems like it would be really miserable.

Emma: Yeah, I hope he's learned his lesson.

Sammie: Fingers crossed.

Just then, Maria cuts off the music and makes an announcement for the students.

Maria: Attention, everyone! The votes have been tallied, and it's time to announce the winners for Homecoming King and Queen!

Sammie and several other students gather in front of the stage to listen.

Maria: And 2018 Berry High's Homecoming King and Queen are....Drumroll please....

The crowd drums on their thighs.

Maria: Julian Castillo and Sammie Clifford!

Sammie: I won? I won!

Sammie and Julian rush up onto the stage, and Maria places crowns on each of their heads.

Maria: Congratulations to you both. Is there anything you'd like to say to your classmates?

Julian: This is a dream come true! I want to thank all of the school for voting me! Thank you, everyone. This school is one of the best things to ever happen to me, and I'm proud to represent you. Shoutout to my football team. This has been one hell of a season!

Everyone cheers.

Maria: Thank you, Julian. Sammie, the mic is yours.

Sammie: Wow! Thank you. This really is an honor! Even tho, I was nominated twice back in Louisiana and most of all, When I first transferred to Berry High, I knew right away, it was a special place. A place where students cared each other, and everyone got a chance to be their best. Every day, I've gotten to see just how right that first impression was. I could go to a thousand schools, but I doubt I'd ever find one with a heart like Oliver M. Berry High. So, Thank you, Tigers, for accepting me.
