"Come on, brother, tell mother what's wrong so we can understand," Wei begged, his voice quivering. He couldn't take it anymore. He'd never seen his older brother act out of character before, and seeing him do so, he and their mother could only conclude that something was seriously wrong, and it wasn't simple.
"Jiang Cheng, tell me where your father is, hm?" Empress Vie gripped her son's shoulder with both hands, her gaze fixed on him, and her voice sounded more impatience as the second passed.
"Mo—mother... I can't..." Jiang Cheng muttered between shivering lips, tears on the verge of falling.
"TELL ME!"
His mother erupted in rage at his words, accompanied by an explosion at the left wing, thirty meters away from where they are.
They all flinch at the loud noise and turn to face the explosion, their hearts pounding in unison with fear.
Is the left wing on fire?
Wei's breath caught in his throat for a split second as his eyes filled with disbelief.
"Stay here with your brother," Empress Vie said, attempting to flee, but his son Jiang Cheng was quick to grab her left arm and stop her.
"No, Mother. Please, Mother, we must depart immediately. Father told me to meet you two and hurry to the Cloud Clan," he said, his voice pleading and scared.
"BROTHER, WHATS GOING ON!" Wei yelled, distracting his elder brother and mother's argument, his eyes wide with fear and on the verge of tears as his body shuddered with confusion.
"Please tell me," Wei voice crack as tears began to drip from his eyes.
Jiang Cheng lowered his head to the floor, biting his lips once more in frustration, tears streaming down his cheeks.
"Someone found out about you, and the two sects joined forces to force father to let you come out; father is in the YanDung hall right now, denying all their speculations and words because they didn't have proof, but given the explosion earlier, I think..."
Jiang Cheng pauses, closing his eyes tightly as if in pain. He didn't want his younger brother or mother to find out about it right now; he planned to tell them after they arrived safely at the cloud clan, but when he heard his younger brother's desperate plea, Cheng couldn't help but burst out fully.
'I'm sorry, father,' he deeply reflected.
"So it's my fault," Wei stated, his eyes dejected and sorrowful.
"All of it. This is all because of me right now," he added, his voice sounding dry as tears clouded his vision. He couldn't think clearly and couldn't breathe properly. His heart and shoulder felt so heavy, so unbelievably heavy, that he couldn't move an inch in his current position.
Empress Vie looked at her second son and couldn't help but breathe in trembling air inside her lungs, her heart heavy and in pain for him.
"That isn't important right now, my dear. What is important right now is that you and your brother safely leave this place with the remaining people and travel to the Cloud Clan. I'll accompany your father to the YanDu hall, and we'll all meet up at the Cloud Clan later, okay?" Empress Vie suggests, calmly stroking his second son's back, to provide some comfort, but Wei rejects her words, saying.
"No! I will not go! I will not leave without father and you! What if something bad happens? No! I refuse! I'd rather die than leave you all here!"
Smack!
Empress Vie had purposefully slapped her son across the cheeks.
"Can you hear yourself saying that right now? I can't believe I brought you into this world! You are a disgrace to our clan!"
She screamed in rage, tears streaming from her eyes, and her face was filled with disappointment toward her second son.
She didn't mean to say such things, but after seeing her son stubbornly turn a deaf ear to her words, Empress Vie had no choice but to become a villain in his second son's eyes and do whatever she could to get them to leave this place right away.
Wei held his face, which was now throbbing with pain from his mother's slap, and stared at his mother in disbelief. He was stunned and speechless as this was the first time his mother had used violence against him. For a brief moment, he felt as if his world had come to a halt.
"...Mother?" he called, his voice tingling with helplessness as he extended his right hand to his mother's shoulder, desperate for comfort.
"I'm sorry, Mother; I never meant to say—"
"Leave!" She cut her son's word short, continuing her cold mother act.
'I'm sorry, please forgive me, but I have to do this. There isn't much time,' she lamented.
"Now!" She yelled, then turned around and hurried away, not looking back.
