PROLOGUE

Do I love him?

I stared at him thoroughly.

Yes, definitely. I love this guy in front of him.

“Dali na, Cuz. Please help me with this one. It’s our third year anniversary and I want this to be special” he pleaded while doing some bloody puppy eyes in front of me.

Bloody idiot. It’s my cousin, Chino. How could I resist him? He is like my guy best friend. We’ve been together since birth, longer than I know everyone. Mas nauna ko pa siya nakasama kesa kay Suji at Misha. He’s been there for me through thick and thin. He has always been my shoulder to cry on when everything seems like falling apart.

He’s asking for a help in surprising his girlfriend and he wants to do it in our private Island. So, who am I to refuse to help him? I’d be so cruel if hindi ko siya mapagbibigyan sa simpleng pabor na hinihingi niya.

But on the other hand, was it really a simple thing for me?

“There are a lot of beach resorts out there, Chino. Why does it have to be there?” I said while massaging my temple because his plan is giving me headaches.

“Because your Island is way fancier than any other beach resorts! It’s the best beach resort here in the country and I want the best for my girl” he quickly answered.

“So please ipagpaalam mo kay tito na pupunta tayo doon. Pretty please? You love me right?” he added to convince me while shaking my arms.

I heaved a sigh. “Damn it! You are so annoying. Fine! I’ll tell dada about your plan” I said in defeat.

No, his favor isn’t a simple thing for me dahil ayoko na sanang bumalik sa lugar na iyon but I can’t really resist my cousin.

“Yes! You are the best. I love you, cousin. I will wire the money to your account” he yelled in joy and hugged be tightly. He even kissed both of my cheeks sa sobrang tuwa niya.

He better pay me well with this.

“My God! Ew! Your saliva” maarte ko itong tinulak and wiped my cheeks using my hands then fixed my eyeglasses.

He just chuckled at my reaction.
Now, how am I supposed to do this?
I’ve never been there ever since we parted ways. I never came back there because I don’t want to remember things. The things that shattered me into pieces years ago. Things that are supposed to be buried under the white sand of our Island.

That Island is where everything started and it is also where it ended. It is where she left me with a broken heart. Fucks!

Napahilamos nalang ako ng mukha habang pinagmamasdan ang pinsan kong masayang inilabas ang iPad niya at maya maya’y iniharap niya ito sa akin.

“I want this kind of theme, Ray. Do you think this is okay?” he asked me showing the a photo from pinterest that he's screen captured.

It was a picture of a romantic setting by the beach. The sand is full of candles that are formed into a heart shape and inside of it is a ‘Happy anniversary. I love you’ statement that is written on the sand.

“I will replace 'happy 3rd anniversary, Akiko’ and ‘I love you with all my heart’ there” sabi pa neto habang tinuturo ang nakasulat doon sa buhangin. He looks so happy while describing his ideas to me. Damn it! How can I turn him down?

“cheezy” I snorted. “But, yeah. That’s a good idea”  I added to show some support kahit nacocornyhan na ako sa mga sinasabi niya.

“I knew it! Sabi na nga ba, I can count on you with this one”

“Ano pa kaya ang pwedeng idagdag?” tanong pa neto which made me mentally roll my eyes.

I almost jumped in my position when I felt my phone vibrated beside me.

I silently read the message from this unknown number but I am pretty sure who is behind this sender. She always sends me messages but I never reply.

What the heck have I done in my past life to be in this kind of situation?
Have I done a huge sin in my past life for my fate to get played like this? I think this is too much.
