"Are you fucking serious Karen?" A voice shouted.
Andrea's head shot up at the angry voice, only to see Imogen Adams storming through the cafeteria. Imogen was a lovely girl, and to see her real angry was a rarity.
It was known that Imogen and Karen used to be best friends. They were as close as two friends could ever be. That was until Karen threw a party and Imogen and Greg, Karen's boyfriend, were caught kissing. And despite, Imogen saying that Greg kissed her, Karen refused to believe her best friend and instead chose her boyfriend, ultimately ending her friendship with the Adams girl.
Everyone stared at the angry girl as she approached Karen's table, the whole cafeteria falling silent. Imogen stood at the end of Karen's table, glaring down at her.
"Excuse me?" Karen asked.
"Don't play dumb." Imogen ordered. "Like you didn't go to Principal Clanton about me."
Andrea's eyes widened in shock at Imogen's words. Imogen Adams had fallen pregnant at sixteen and while many of the students didn't really care, their initial shock having worn off, others didn't want her there -- seeing her as a distraction. Clearly, Karen was one of the people that didn't want her in school, for personal reasons most probably but Imogen being pregnant allowed her to voice Karen's personal vendetta in an attempt to get Imogen out of school.
"Imogen..." Karen stood up, a faux concerned look on her face as she placed her hands on her hips. "you don't see well. Are you sure this is the right environment for someone in your delicate condition?"
"Thank you so much for your concern," Imogen replied sarcastically. "but I'm fine."
"Your unhinged behaviour indicates otherwise." Karen retorted.
"What did I ever do to you? Really?" Imogen turned to face Greg, a laugh leaving her lips. "And, Greg... you piece of shit coward. Will you finally tell her the truth?"
"You don't belong here." Karen spoke up firmly, stepping closer to Imogen. "And I am not the only person who feels that way."
Imogen hummed, turning to face the rest of the students. She scanned the room, shrugging slightly. "Well, I'm not going anywhere." She turned back to Karen. "In fact... I'm going to be Spirit Queen, just like my mum was."
"What are you even talking about?" Karen didn't believe her.
"Aw, keep up, Karen." Imogen tilted her head slightly. "I'm. Running. Against you. And I'm going to win."
And with her final words, Imogen strutted out of the cafeteria, stealing a muffin from some random person's plate. The entire cafeteria was left in a state of shock, everyone breaking out into chatter about what just happened. Andrea turned to look around the room, making eye contact with Josh across the room, him having an amused look on his face at what just occurred.
"We are so voting for Imogen." Noa leant over to tell her friend.
"Definitely." Andrea quickly agreed.
Later that evening, Andrea walked into her house after a very vigorous volleyball practice. She waved goodbye to Shawn as she closed her door, the boy always waiting until she was safely in her house before he even thought about leaving. The girl moved further through her house, dropping her bag on the sofa in her living room before making her way into the kitchen.
"Hey mum." She greeted the woman, who was stood over the oven.
"Hi sweetie." Jennifer smiled at the daughter. "How was practice?"
"Tiring." Andrea yawned. "We got a tournament this weekend and Coach Roberts is pushing us."
"You don't need all this training." Jennifer stated, walking over to her and squishing her cheeks together. "You're perfect at volleyball, always have been. Now go get changed, dinner will be ready soon."
