CHASE
Fucking drama left right and centre, I swear to fucking god.
"Did they say anything on the phone?" I ask mom, who's seated beside me in the car, with Ryan and Pattie in the back.
"All they said was that they are both in hospital Chase, I don't know anything more!" Mom snaps back, before going back to chewing her nails.
A horrible habit that Mom and Jen both share.
"Jeez Mom, sorry!"
I look back at Ryan in the rear vision mirror, and he looks to be the worst of the lot of us. I think about questioning him on this, asking him whether he knows more than he's letting on, but I don't want to worry Mom and Pattie any more than they already are.
"Chase!! That was an exit only sign! You're on a one way road!" Mom scolds, grabbing hold of the dashboard.
"Ha...oops!" I force a laugh to try and calm everyone down. It wasn't an accident; I seem to know this hospital like the back of my fucking hand. Between Jen and Justin's hospital visits over the last year and a bit, I've spent more than enough money on visitor parking.
I need to see my baby sister though, and I'll drive the wrong way down any one-way road just to get to her a few seconds quicker.
I let Mom and Pattie out at the drop off, and drive off to find a car park.
"Right...what the fuck do you know that I don't?" I ask Ryan.
"What?"
"I'm not stupid bro. Tell me what's going on!"
Ryan sighs, running his hands over his face, exasperated, then shrugs.
"Can we just wait to hear it from them? 'Cos I don't really know enough to tell you." He says, as we both climb out of the car. We're all made to sit in the waiting room, as they're both still getting treated.
Eventually, Pattie, Mom and I are ushered through emergency and seated in a separate waiting area, where two nurses, one male one female, come to talk.
"Mrs. Bieber...?"
"Yes, I'm his mother." Pattie states, shifting forward in her seat anxiously.
"Hi Mrs. Bieber-"
"Mallette. It's Mallette. How is he?"
"He has suffered smoke inhalation. We're currently waiting on results for a chest x-ray to see the severity, but judging by the amount of oxygen in the blood, it's not too severe, and Justin will make a full recovery with the correct treatment. Suction, humidified oxygen and so forth." The male doctor smiles down at Pattie, as she nods along with every word.
"And Mrs. Summers I presume?" The female nurse speaks.
Mom nods.
"Jens injuries are a little more severe than Justin's. There is not a lot of oxygen being carried through her blood. We're assisting with this, and to be honest, they're lucky they got out with all their skin still intact, however..." The nurse turns to look at me, and then clears her throat. "Maybe it's best if I speak with you alone Mrs. Summers?"
"No. Here is fine. Why...what's going on?"
The nurse sighs and fidgets on the spot. "Mrs. Summers, due to multiple tests taking place-although they were not necessary to make the conclusion as much as they are necessary to be administered and results provided by law-your daughter was brutally beaten and...raped."
The life gets sucked right out of me, and I'm immediately on my feet, my hands grasping at my hair.
The nurses eyes dart down to Pattie, and I know that accusing look. I immediately see red. Burning hot rage flooding my veins.
"What the fuck was that look? You think he did this? What the fuck is wrong with you? Justin would never-"
"I'm sorry sir, but Mr. Bieber was the only other person at the scene. He's currently being guarded by police. Jen also has an armed guard outside her door.
"You're fucking mental!" I yell in her face.
"Chase." Pattie sobs, trying to grab hold of my hand.
"No! This is fucking insane. You're fucking insane! How dare you!"JUSTIN
My eyes slowly open, and the first thing I see is two police officers standing beside my bed staring down at me. I immediately think they've come to tell me that Jen didn't make it.
I pull the oxygen mask down from my face.
"Where's Jen? Is she okay?" I ask frantically, looking around the room in a panic, before breaking into a hysterical cough, my chest burning like a mother fucker.
"Why do you need to know sir?" One officer asks.
"She's my girlfriend; of course I need to know!" I frown.
