Chapter 57

"A letter addressed to me from Huma." she said. "I guess, she probably knew you would not read her letter and wanted me to do something about it." She held up the envelope, "Do you think we should read this one also?" 

"I am not sure I care to hear anymore that she has to say." 

"Can, what if this letter explains more? What if she isn't lying about Emelie Dubois and she has found out more?" she took a deep breath "The woman has visited her in prison, if Huma truly does not know her, then she may have more to tell us."

"Sanem, I will not stop you from reading the letter if that is what you want, but I just don't trust Huma."

"I understand and you have every right not to. But! What if she now knows more than she did before her first letter?" 

"Ok

Just as Sanem torn open the envelope, Can's phone pinged with a message. He looked at his phone "It's a text from Emre, he wants to know where we are. He says he found out something that he wants us to hear in person."

"Then, text him back, have him come to the farm and face us. If he is truly innocent, he should have no problem coming here to talk to us."  Can quickly text back that they were at the farm, Emre responded he was on his way.

Sanem once again opened another letter that Huma had sent to them. "Do you want me to read it out loud?"  Can nodded yes.

Sanem,

I am hoping that you and Can will have read the letter that I gave Metin at my trial.  But I believe Can would not care what I had to say. If not, then hopefully I can explain what is going on and you can make some sense of what I am trying to say.

In my letter to Can I told you about a woman name Amelie Dubois, since my trial she has visited me at the prison several times. She comes to taunt me, saying how she is going to ruin the Divit name because of me. I don't understand what this woman has against me or the Divits.  She says I will learn soon enough how I ruined her life. I can't let that happen and I need your help to stop her. 

I still don't know who she really is, I have used the computers in the library to look her up, but I have found nothing, so I am assuming she is using a fake name. I even called Emre, and he did visit me. I tried to talk to him about this woman, but he just ignored what I had to say. 

This week, I was surprised by a visit from Fabri and Aylin. Fabri had a lot to say about his hatred for Can and I soon realized that they wanted to use me to get back at him. I told them no, that I had lost everything dear to me because of what I had done, and I wanted nothing to do with their plan. Even though I told them I wasn't interested, they laughed in my face and said they really didn't my help, but they would make sure you believed that I was working with them. 

 The thing is I believe they are working with this Amelie woman. The three came to visit me on the same day this week and they acted as if they didn't know each other but I sensed that was just an act, so I asked one of the guards to watch out the window when they left.  He did and he told me that Fabri and Aylin were waiting for this woman in the parking lot, and they had talked for several minutes. 

Please, I know you have no reason to believe anything I say but I am begging you not to trust these two people if they come to you. They only want revenge on the Divit brothers. Have Metin look into this for you or have Can hire a private investigator. Please, I really am trying to help.

Huma

Sanem was stunned by the words written in Huma's letter. "What do you think?" she asked.

"I don't know any more, but I will find out." He stood and offered her his hand "Let's go see what Emre has to say." 

As they were walking, he text Metin that Emre was on his way to the farm, and they were headed back also.  He wanted a few minutes alone with Metin to talk to him about the letters.

Emre was still not there when they got back so Can asked Metin to go inside and talk about what Huma's letters had said. 

"I don't want to believe her but what if she is telling the truth?" Said Can.

"I have a PI in the office and I will have him look into this Dubois woman." Metin answered "What did Emre say?"

"He wanted to know where we were that he needed to talk to us. Sanem said to let him know we were at the farm and if he was innocent, he should be able to face us. But he should be here by now." Can replied.

"Let's go back out, I didn't say a word to the others about his message."

As they were walking back out, Emre's car pulled into the drive. After he had parked, he got out of the car and walked toward the group.

He looked over at Leyla and his heart tore into pieces knowing she was thinking the worse of him. He walked over to Can and Metin "Can we talk alone for a few minutes?" Can nodded his head yes and they walked toward the cabin he shared with Sanem.

"Go ahead, what do you have to say?" Can spoke with a little anger in his voice.

"I know how this looks but I have nothing to do with what is going on?" Emre said "I had a call from Huma and went to see her, she was going on about some woman, a, Emelie something. Then today with everything going on I had a text from a guard who has been watching Huma and her visitors for me and he needed me to call him. That is why I left your office."

Metin and Can listened not saying a word. "He was telling me about Fabri and Aylin and then he spoke about the woman, Emelie, that she had come to see Huma and then spoke with the other two after she left. He said they spoke for several minutes.   He said Huma was visibly shaking when she returned to her cell."

"So, who is this woman." asked Metin.

"That's just it I cannot find anything on her. I have looked her up on several computer apps and no one with that name around her age is anywhere to be found."

Can looked at Emre unsure how to respond to him, he finally spoke "Sanem and I read the letters from Huma today. She speaks about this woman in both letters. That she had first visited her while she was waiting for her trial to start and then several times at the prison."

"Did Huma know who she was?" asked Metin.

"No, all she said was that this woman wanted to ruin the Divit name to get back at something Huma had done to cause her family a lot of pain. Huma says she doesn't even know what she did, that this woman wouldn't tell her, just that she would find out soon enough."

Metin picked up his phone and punched in a number "Omar, I need you to start looking for a woman named Emelie Dubois, find anything on her or anyone with that name." he stopped and then spoke again "And I needed it yesterday so get on it." Metin listened as Omar spoke "No, I don't have an age, just look for anyone with this name." he paused then spoke again "Alive or dead."

Can looked at Metin as if he were crazy, "If someone is using the name, it could be from someone they knew who is no longer alive." said Metin

"Let's go tell everyone else what is going on." Said Can and the three men headed back out the door. 

Can and Emre let Metin explain what was happening and what they had found out from Huma's letters and also from what Emre had just told them.
