10: End of Prologue

Start from the beginning

"Take one of our fresh horses and warn surrounding towns and villages." Erwin ordered the man. There were only a couple horses they hadn't taken with them on the recon mission. Lillian felt bad having to get back on her already tired gelding.

"I want all of you to go help civilians and get them to the Trost District!" Erwin shouted to the Scouts. "I want my team to ride with me South to Shiganshina!"

"Where's Shadis? Shouldn't he be leading this?" Mike asked his friend.

"I'm Commander of the Scouts now." Erwin explained. "Shadis relinquished his position when we got back to Shiganshina. I'm not sure where he is now." Erwin shook his head, trying to shake all thoughts going through his head and only focus on one. "But that doesn't matter now. What matters is the breach. Replenish your blades and gas. We ride out immediately!"

"Yes sir!" A chorus of Scouts said. They split into three groups. One group rode with the injured straight to the Trost District, the second group split into two to help evacuate civilians, and the third one, Erwin's squad of soldiers rode straight towards the titans. Lillian wanted to ask why, but she didn't bother.

The titans were already flooding in. The castle where they stayed was only a little under an hour ride to Shiganshina. The sky was turning dark, and the sun was disappearing. Lillian's arms and legs throbbed with pain as she once again flew off her horse and charged into Shiganshina. Levi was by her side, helping her cut through the titans to try and get to the wall. A couple Garrison soldiers were standing on top of the wall, blades drawn but feet frozen to the ground.

"What is going on?" Lillian asked. Behind her the ODM gear belonging to their Commander zipped up to them.

"A titan, probably sixty meters tall kicked through the gate at Shiganshina, then another one, probably fifteen meters broke through the gate for Wall Maria." A blonde garrison soldier explained to the three Scouts.

"Are you saying these titans showed intelligence?" Erwin asked him.

"Yes I am. They just appeared out of nowhere. Both of them. There was a flash of yellow lightning, and they were both there!"

"You've been drinking, Soldier." Lillian scoffed. Mike would have been proud of her for being able to smell the alcohol on his breath.

"It was a while ago!" His face contorted with anger. "But I know what I saw! Ask any of these men, they will say the same!"

"Lily, not everyone holds their liquor as bad as you do." Levi said to her. Lillian rolled her eyes.

"Lillian, Levi, I want you two and the rest of the troops to search for any stragglers. Don't go out of your way to kill, there's too many. Focus on evacuating civilians and getting them to safety." The two siblings nodded and went down to tell the rest of the Scouts that came with them. The group worked quickly and as efficiently as they could, but there were too many. Luckily since it was starting to get dark out the titans slowed down and they were able to get more people to safety.

Erwin stayed with the Garrison soldiers, debriefing with everyone he could find that had witnessed these new two types of titans. Colossal Titan and Armored Titan is what they were calling it. Erwin made his notes, and his brain worked fast, thinking of new theories. Despite humanity just losing a large battle, Erwin could feel the truth getting closer and closer.

After weeks of helping fighting titans, rescuing civilians, and helping split rations, Wall Maria was considered a lost cause. Lillian knew they hadn't warned every village and home, but it didn't matter. There was nowhere in Wall Maria where you would be safe from a titan. Even worse, they decided it wouldn't be worth the risk to evacuate the outlier districts. Instead they would let them starve, unless the Colossal and Armored Titan hadn't also visited them.
