Only today had she truly started to try to recover, by making the sling and all. But if she really wanted to survive and recover, she would need to make shelter, find food, and put her shoes on so she wouldn't cut her feet on the rocks. Louise stood up slowly, waiting to see if the sling would fall off her arm, even though she silently hoped and prayed that it didn't.
Luckily, everything stayed put, the vines were strong and supported her weak arm that laid up against her chest. Louise felt the grass under the cotton of her white socks, that wouldn't be white for long. They would get stained as she walked through the grass, Louise could feel her stomach grumbling and growling, she needed to eat. She needed to fuel her body so that her cells could heal her wounds properly and hopefully as quickly as they could, and as she walked, she pondered on what might be out here to eat.
Louise knew that there were dinosaurs out here, but she couldn't eat a Compy or Brachiosaurus, the thought of killing a dinosaur and eating it like it was steak made her sick to her stomach, not only would hunting down a dinosaur would take forever, she would also have to make a spear or an arrow in order to kill it. She didn't have time to over-complicate it, Louise looked around to see that there were mangoes up in the trees, followed by coconuts too.
But she didn't have the strength nor motivation to go up and climb the trees to go and collect them. Unless some kind of dinosaur ran into the fruit trees or a strong gust of wind made the trees shake and lean every which way, there was no way Louise would be able to get the mangoes or coconuts to eat.
So she ventured on, looking for something else, she saw a few butterflies flying around, but she wasn't looking for bugs to eat, at least not right now. And she noticed a few stray pigeons and sparrows around, though these were just the ones she saw flying around, they could have a whole nest on some other part of the island. Louise looked at bushes and other low plants, she saw anoles camouflaged into the leaves, and she thought of the possibility of iguanas being on this island...
Besides the whole dinosaur part, Isla Nublar was a pretty normal island, it had birds and reptiles, fruits and rivers, nothing was that different from any island she knows of. And then Louise looked at the bushes again, to see these red and yellow berries, they were round, brightly colored and almost glistening in the sunlight. She didn't consider them to be poisonous, only she'd find out shortly after if she chose to eat them.
Whether she would get disgustingly sick or just simply pass out and not wake up, that would determine if the berries were safe or not. Louise tried to remember if Dave or Roxie mentioned berries on Nublar, what kind they were and if they were safe to eat, she searched her memory, trying desperately to remember....This was the matter of living or dying, starving or feasting....
She reached her right hand to pick a berry and twisted it off of the vine, she brought it to her face so she could inspect it, it didn't look like anything that would make her sick. It was red and firm, but it had some bounce to it, she placed the berry on her tongue, she closed her mouth and hesitated to chew. Her teeth slowly sunk down onto the small berry, and she felt the juices squeeze out from it, it was a fairly sweet flavor with some bitterness at the end.
And she waited after she swallowed the chewed up berry, she waited to see if she would start sweating profusely or swelling up at her throat, her lips, she waited if she stomach would suddenly cramp up, she waited to see if she her body was going to make her throw up to reject the poison she potentially put inside her. She stood in front of the berry bush, standing in the middle of the forest, she didn't have anyway to track how much time had passed, Louise didn't wear a watch nor did she have her phone so she could set a timer.
The campers weren't allowed to have phones, if they brought them, they would be confiscated and kept until the two weeks were up. Some of the campers brought theirs, like Yasmina, Sammy, and Kenji. Ben had left his at home with his mother and that's what Louise did too, she saw no reason in bringing it and she could last two weeks without it. Dave and Roxie had notified everyone's parents about their safe arrival to Nublar and if their parents chose to periodically check in with them, Dave or Roxie would handle the situation.
But for obvious reasons, Brooklynn had kept her phone because she was a vlogger, practically a celebrity. And if it wasn't for Sammy, Brooklynn may still have had that phone. Louise couldn't quite understand why Sammy did what she did, even though Sammy said that she was protecting her family and her farm, it was just a weird thing to imagine someone being a spy for a company.
Though, Louise didn't have a close relationship with Sammy like Yasmina did, Sammy got Yasmina out of her shell but Yasmina had felt immediately betrayed by it all. Yasmina had took Sammy's side and was fighting with Brooklynn in order to defend Sammy. Louise shook her head, forbidding herself to recall these details, but as she thought about it, the waiting was over and she was still standing straight up.
Meaning, these berries were safe to eat, she picked a few more berries and held them in her fist, putting one or two in her mouth at a time as she ventured on. Louise knew that these berries wouldn't be very substantial for the long term hunger relief, but it was the best she had in this moment and she would pick more berries on the way back to the waterfall.

(What my brain came up with ⬇️)A/N: I know it's not the best but I think a visual was needed because I don't think I explained it very well in my writing. But again, this is what my brain came up with.
