eden woke up and rolled over to see that steven was gone.

she furrowed her eyebrows.

where had he gone?

maybe he had just gotten up early.

eden shrugged and unlocked her phone.

she opened instagram and laughed at a few of the comments.

she then saw jace's account and clicked on it.

her heart dropped.

he removed her as a follower and unfollowed her.

she clicked her phone off and plopped it down beside her.

she bowed her head and shook it.

she lost jace forever.

that was it.

she wanted to reach out, but it was too soon. he had probably blocked her number anyway.

"good morning--eden?"

eden looked up and saw steven.

"oh. hi."

"what's wrong?" he asked.

"why do you always assume something's wrong." she rolled her eyes.

"based on your body language and responses, i can tell. also, i know you inside out, edie."

he then sat down on the bed.

"so tell me what happened."

he grabbed her hand, but she pulled it away.

steven furrowed his eyebrows at her.

"eden?"

"i just...i need some space." she said.

"what? why? what's gotten into you?" he asked with a shake of his head.

"i think we got together too soon. it's a lot." she replied.

"this...this is about jace, isn't it? did he do something? did he contact you?" steven asked.

"no, nothing like that." eden shook her head.

"so what is it? i wanna be here to help you."

"well, i need you to just not."

she stood up and walked to the door.

"are...are you breaking up with me?" he asked.

she just left the room.

steven shook his head. he grabbed a pillow and threw it across the room, angry with eden, but also angry with jace and more importantly with himself to think that eden was ready for this relationship, which clearly she wasn't. but was he.

eden trudged over to susannah's room and knocked on the door, which opened right away.

"oh, honey, you caught me right before i was going downstairs. what's going on?" susannah asked.

"i just wanted to see you. and apologize for yesterday. i never meant to make you fall like that. i feel horrible, mom." eden apologized. "do you hate me?"

"oh, my sweet flower, i could never hate you. i was upset, but it was because i fell, not because of you. i know it was an accident. i was mostly irritated because of your father and--you know what, that doesn't matter. come here, eden."

eden walked over to her mother and hugged her.

"i love you, mom."

"i love you more, flower. now, let's go downstairs for some breakfast."

eden nodded. "okay."

she followed her mother downstairs to see that it was only laurel, belly, lily, and conrad.

"jere and steven went off to work already?" susannah questioned.

"yeah, steven insisted they should get there early. he told steven he'd make him something at the snack bar for breakfast." lily replied with a shrug.

"okay, then. eden, i'll make you some eggs."

eden nodded and looked down.

she knew why steven left. because of her. it was her fault. but she knew that it was for the best to give each other space.

so that's what they did.

until she remembered they had to do dance lessons together.
