"we took this picture when you were 11, gosh look at you" Darren said as he looked at the picture taken 7 years ago in which rue was seen wearing a cowboy hat and a white t-shirt which had 'essex' scribbled on it very poorly

"yeah just, don't show me those pictures on my first day to college maybe?" rue remarked

"it's gonna be fine, just take it easy and no pressure on yourself" darren tried calming the girl down before they slowed down when they reached essex.

"I'll see you later?" Margaret hugged her daughter before she got into the car

"you're leaving too?" jay asked "I thought you were gonna help her move in?"

"no, you were gonna do that, I have a surgery appointment today"

"I have a meeting, I would've postponed if I knew you weren't gonna do it" he reached into his pocket to take his phone out "I'll have to cancel it now" he grunted

"no, actually dad, you should go ahead, i'll help her settle in, it's okay" Darren butted in

"what-"

"dad, please, go ahead, drive mom back" Darren gave his dad a knowing look before making him get into the driver's seat

"alright" he drove off.

"help me move in, huh?" rue smirked "get the luggage then" she told her brother before walking off

"i am not your servant" he said rushing over to catch her while carrying her bags

"okay" rue muttered walking down the halls and trying to find her room, 23B "there it is" she exclaimed before walking inside and seeing two other girls

"hey" one of them said  "i am Kaylee, you must be rue"

"yes, hi nice to meet you " they shook hands

"what is this? a business meeting?" another voice said "abigail" she introduced herself and went in for a hug rue awkwardly hugged the girl back

"wow i am so excited" kaylee told the girls eyeing Darren who awkwardly stood at the door fixing his glasses

"oh this is my brother" rue commented noticing "Darren" he said a quick hello to them

"i guess Yvette hasn't arrived yet?" she questioned the two girls

"oh no, she won't be in the dorm with us" kaylee informed "she backed out last minute and since all the arrangements are made, it'll just be us three"

"i call dibs on that room" she pointed to the door of the room "alone" she nodded feeling proud of herself "you can put my bags in there and we'll just go have a quick bite, i am starving" rue said walking out and everyone looked at Darren with expressions that said 'unbelievable'

rue took out her phone to text her 'friend' Ashley when she suddenly bumped into someone blonde

"oh shit i am sorry" she decided to be a decent human being for once

"yeah whatever" the girl said trying to rush away

"no, hey" rue scoffed in disbelief picking her phone back up as the blonde turned around "you cracked my phone screen the least you could do was apologize like i did"

"yeah cuz you were on your phone-"

"and you were practically running?" rue cut the girl off and Darren approached the two

"i don't have time for this right now"

"yeah well fu-"

"okay" Darren yelled taking rue's arm and dragging her out with him

"so how are you gonna get home?" rue asked her brother munching on her burrito

"just call a car service or something" he said taking out his phone rue nodded to herself "will be here in 4 minutes"

"that's good just get out of here as soon as you can, i don't want any more of my potential friends drooling over you" 

"any more? what do you mean more?" he chuckled

"oh please as if you didn't see kayla eye fucking you"

"wait when?"

"this is why you're single"

"but wait, seriously? Kayla? she was looking at me?"

"oh shut up, even if she was i am not gonna set you two up" rue rolled her eyes

"yeah well, my car's here" he said in a low voice

"that's great" she looked at him wanting to say something but decided against it

"i know" he nodded and gave her a smile "see you, loser" he walked to his car, rue scoffed at the guy before waving him a quick goodbye
