I winced, the memory of the tangled emotions too raw to bear. "Can we not talk about that?" I pleaded, my voice barely above a whisper.

Blair nodded, understanding flickering in the depths of his gaze. "Fine, I won't."

I couldn't shake off the unease that had settled within me. I knew that I had to find someone else that I can call my own, rather than having someone to hide around with every time. The thought of being constantly on edge, of needing a distraction from the looming presence of Mr. Bezos, made my skin crawl.

Blair's voice broke through my internal turmoil. "I am going to wrap up and you meet me downstairs in the parking lot in five. Okay?"

I nodded, trying to push aside my thoughts as we parted ways. Back in my office, I gathered my belongings, each movement weighed down by the weight of my own uncertainty. With a heavy sigh, I snatched my keys and exited the office, the door shutting behind me with a finality that mirrored my own conflicted emotions.

The elevator ride down to the first floor, the silence echoing my inner turmoil. Stepping out into the lobby, I spotted Athena engaged in conversation with the male assistant. Her gaze flicked towards me, and for a moment, the air seemed to thicken with unspoken tension. Ignoring the visible awkwardness, I held my head high as I walked past them, determination fueling each step towards the parking lot where Blair's car awaited.

Blair was not yet there when I arrived, so I stood by his car, the seconds ticking by slowly as I glanced at my wristwatch. Finally, he appeared, his messy appearance a testament to the chaotic nature of our workplace. "Sorry I'm late, had to stop and chat with Mr. Bezos," he explained wearily.

"No worries, I wasn't even here that long anyways," I replied, mustering a small smile despite the turmoil churning within me.

With a nod, Blair unlocked the car with a press of a button, the familiar click signaling the start of our journey home. I slid into the passenger seat, the cool leather offering a small comfort despite the storm of emotions raging inside me.

As Blair settled behind the wheel and started the engine, I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over me as we drove away from the suffocating atmosphere of the office, each passing mile offering a temporary reprieve from the relentless pressure of our corporate world.

As Blair and I stood on the porch, I could feel the anticipation bubbling within me. Visiting my parents always carried a special kind of excitement, especially since my mom had a knack for nudging me towards romantic prospects. But with Blair by my side, I felt a mix of nerves and anticipation, wondering how my mother would react.

We waited as the sound of footsteps grew louder, signaling someone approaching the door. With a swift motion, my mom swung the door open, revealing her surprised expression.

Her eyes flickered between Blair and me, a wide grin spreading across her face. "Well, well, Elle, who do we have here?" she exclaimed.

I introduced Blair with a smile, feeling a twinge of amusement at the situation. "This is Blair. We're colleagues. And I hope you remembered to pack Chipper's things," I added.
