The fire sprite jumps up and down on the couch, almost with excitement. When I go into the bedroom, my father is awake, slamming his foot against the closet door. I open it and his exhausted eyes gaze up to me with reassurance.

"Mavis,"

"Dad!" I fall onto my knees and pull his neck into a hug, body heavy with relief. "So glad you're okay."

"W-what happened?" His voice is jagged and worn from his endless sleep. I let go of him and wipe my eyes from wet tears.

"I'll explain later."

A burst erupts from the front door and there's shouting and a rush of footsteps. Leaving my father behind, I rush out of the bedroom and raise my arms in the air when there's police officers and firemen surrounding the living room. Armed and ready to fire, they point their guns at me but lower them when they recognize who I am and who my father is. Glancing around for any intruders, I let them invade, two firemen helping my father out of the closet.

My shoulders drop when two policemen ask me if I'm okay when they see that I'm covered in blood. Yet I don't answer when there's no fire sprite jumping up and down on the couch or a bloody Maximus on the broken table.

There's no Du Pont siblings or my mate standing on his feet half conscious. There's no Sam, only debris and dust where his body laid as if he burned to ash. There was nothing but the SD chip still injected into my computer, finally returning to the rightful owner.

A week later
Karden's POV:

Eagerly, Issy and I waited outside of the international terminal of arriving flights. I can feel the bond tickle a little deep within, knowing that Mavis should be appearing soon.

"After all this time, she forgave you." Issy chuckles, shaking her head. "Still unbelievable."

I shrug, never removing my gaze from the arriving people, "You'd be surprised, human or not, the mating bond is what keeps you together."

"I think I'm slowly understanding." Her cheeks turn pink and my assumption is because of Ryker. I grin, returning my gaze back to a group of people coming because I instantly smell her.

Mavis comes out of the crowd with a luggage and backpack, eyes tired from the long travel. Calen was able to make a portal before the police made it upstairs. Aria and her family her given a warning if any other threats came our way, more bodies will drop. And so, we returned her father's corpse. Sam was dead and Issy's secret came out but not to all, only to the family.

And Mavis, my sweet, strong Mavis.

I gave her a phone a rung and explained everything I could about Jenny and my family and everything that would change because of us and what we have. I let her have the choice of staying with me or letting me go.

Her father had no recollection of what happened and why he was in the closet. I made sure a warlock friend of mine from the city was able to take any memories away. As for the incident in the loft and a few injured and two citizens dead of New York City from the fallen glass...it was a freak accident. The windows deteriorate over time causing a deep investigation on the building and the property.

Issy shrieks and jumps up and down when she sees Mavis, waving her arms in the air. Mavis's eyes light up when she notices us, walking with her luggage trailing behind her. She slides her backpack off her shoulder and runs to me, arms spread out wide.

I laugh, feeling joyful and thankful to have her in my arms again, finally free. Mavis jumps into my arms and I bury my face into the crook of her neck, planting kisses between her neck and shoulder.

When we let go, she runs her hand along my cheek, pulling me down and presses her lips against mine. I don't let go, never wanting to let go. Yet when she pulls away, she pulls something out of her pocket.

"I don't know what to do with this." She tells me, holding the small, vile chip that almost ruined the entire world.

"This," I tell her, plucking it out of her delicate fingers and crushing it into half with my fingers until it pulls apart into two pieces. Never able to destroy us again.

"I love you, Karden." Mavis mutters, a glint of life in her eyes.

"I love you, Mavis." I tell her, burying her body into my chest.

"Alright, let me get a hug too." Issy jokes and Mavis hugs my sister, fearless and happy to have her too.

"Let's go home." I say, grabbing Mavis's belongings and throwing her backpack over my shoulder.

Mavis holds a reassuring look in her eyes, promising me everything and anything in the life I find worth living in now.
