Chapter 32 - Gifted

"Pffff." I couldn't hold back the way I bursted out laughing. The sound of my laughter echoing off the bedroom walls as I clutch my stomach at the utterly humorous statement.

"What..?" Hyunjin pushes my shoulder in a teasing matter, his voice going up an octave.

"Me? Smartest person? Bitch your the top in our class!" I point out, still laughing my ass off at the ridiculousness of the Hwang Hyunjin saying something like that.

"Well book smart means nothing past university anyway!" Hyunjin fires back, "I meant you are so careful and somehow have everything put together. Like you're so... admireable."

The way the olders eyes sparkled when he said that sent shivers up my spine and tingles to my toes.

"This reminds me of how sappy you got at changbins party."

Hyunjins head shoots to me and I realize I just spilled some secret details the older didn't remember from that night. I immediately slap a hand over my mouth.

"I got... sappy at Changbins party? When I blacked out drunk?? What did I say!?" Hyunjin suddenly stands up on his feet, raising his hands to his head. "Fuck fuck fuck did I say something weird!?"

I almost want to start laughing again, the olders reaction was exactly what I'd thought it'd be. How do I tell him that he did more than just talk sappy?

How do I tell him we maked out?

How do I tell him that I think about it everytime I look at his face? How do I tell him his smile makes my heart beat out of my chest-

"I didn't... I didn't tell you a crazy secret did I? Haha like something like feelings that I was hiding perhaps!" Hyunjin starts full blown panicking now, pacing around my room with his hands tangled in his hair.

I just shake my head, standing up with him. Maybe this conversation gave me a sudden boost of confidence. Maybe it's the adrenaline and that's what's also causing my heart rate to spike.

But I finally blurt out the words. "We kissed."

Well, how could things not be awkward after that?

I went to bed extra early so I wouldn't have to be in the room alone, and perhaps have to talk about that night, with him.

Oh god forbid.

But, on the bright side, it was Christmas the next morning.

We woke up to the reflection of bright white snow shining from the windows. Lights across the whole neighborhood as the warmth of the holiday was in everyone's hearts.

The best day of the year some might say?

The whole family sat in a circle, finally opening the pile of presents that had appeared underneath the tall Christmas tree in the living room. All thanks to my idol, Santa clause.

And also our first to eachother.

Wrapping paper was thrown everywhere as Jeongin scrambled to open a large box, one that he shook in his hands and claimed he heard something good in there.

"HOLY SHIT ITS A RECORD PLAYER." Jeongin shouts, his eyes wide as he finally opens one of the boxes, jumping up and down in excitement.

"Language innie." My mother says through a laugh, her phone in her hand as she was recording a video to send back to our grandparents.

Haewon opens the present I got her and I finally looked at her normally, without a piercing glare this time. "Do you like it?"

A wide smile forms on her face as she puts the bracelet in the box on, "It's beautiful oppa thank you!"

Eventually everyone gets their presents, opening them with smiles and thank yous along with a few laughs and hugs. Until it finally came down to Hyunjins present.

I had ignored him all morning, only talking when necessary. I didn't look his direction, I didn't want to see his laugh or the way his eyes lit up when he opened a gift, it would be too much for my heart.

But I could tell he too was ignoring me, anytime we made eye contact, he would avert his eyes with small blush creeping up his neck.

It almost looked like he was stressed too, maybe nervously tapping his leg or biting his finger nails.

I finally begin to carefully unwrap the box, removing the pieces of tape and opening it up to reveal a small velvet box.

When I open it, my mouth drops open and the swarm of butterflies in my sormach return.

It was a pair of silver rings.

One labeled with hhj and the other with ksm

"T-they're matching, one for me and one for you. "Hyunjin stutters out, making everyone else in the room look at the two of us with raised eyebrows.

I try to ignore the sudden rise of my heart rate as I swallow the lump in my throat. I pull my ring out and slip it onto my middle finger, eyeing it for a moment before clearing my throat and pushing my gift and the other ring toward Hyunjin.

I try to play off the extreme shock and the time I would need to process this later I my bedroom. Instead I act nonchalant. Unbothered. Alpha pilled.

"Open mine." I say in a monotone voice, disguising the squeal I very much needed to let out.

Hyunjin nods and unwraps the gift, pulling it out and tilting his head at it for a moment as I watch through my peripherals.

"It's an internship program." I clear my throat again.

"Huh?" Hyunjin stares at me and then back at the card in his hand, still confused. The rest of the family also exchanbinf confused glances.

"I got you a nursing program, you know, to work on your passion." I quickly explain before turning away again, avoiding his eyes and the embarrassment of doing something special like this.

"REALLY!?" Hyunjin jumps up, clutching the card in his hands as he begins to read the branding on it, realizing it was for a hospital.

"Yah don't get used to it-"

Suddenly a pair of warm arms were wrapping themselves around me. Hyunjin was giggling and stil bouncing as he encapsulated me in his arms, hugging me tight as my eyes go wide and I freeze up.

"THANK YOU MINNIE!!" He exclaims, pulling away and beaming as he stares at me with those shining eyes. His hair was still messy from the morning and he hadn't even washed up yet, but he still looked so perfect, especially up close.

I hold back a flustered smile.

Gosh maybe being sappy was worth it.

Anyways my ex crush keeps hitting me up, the same one who said he didn't like me and jus thought I was funny.

He swiped up on my story and said he'd been to the cafe I posted abt and that it'd be fun if we went together sometime.

HE HAS A GIRLFRIEND GUYS.

WHAT THE HELL?????

so glad I dodged a bullet with this man. He clearly knew I liked him before but still wanted to go out alone with me while in a relationship. What the hell.

I obviously said no.
