"Minho? Minho-hyung? He's waiting for you at the dorm? Why he didn't come here, then? We were all recording together today, we could've shared the car." he said in that nonchalant tone of his, that someone would find careless, but Chan knows better that it's the tone that Changbin use when he's annoyed by something.
"He..." Chan floundered. How could he make his friend understand without being too obvious? "You know, we got a lot of things to talk about... like... bunnies..."
Bunnies? He really said bunnies? I said "bunnies"? That's how my mind really works? Shit, the tomorrow's headlines will all be about how his brain malfunctioned, and he dropped dead on the floor out of nowhere.
"Bunnies?" Changbin repeated, and that was the clue that Chan needed to get up and start collecting his things.
"Yeah, you know, about their fur, which is prettier. Brown bunnies, dark bunnies, White Bunnies..." he babbled, but Chan could see how a little light bulb had come to life inside his friend's head.
"Chan-ah, why you need to talk about bunnies? I mean, we need to record the pre-chorus, and it would be better if you are here too." the assistant interjects, turning on her chair to look up to Chan in question. She's a good girl, a nice person, really, but he can't let her or anyone of the company know about Alice in his dorm or in his general proximity. Especially after JYP accidentally met her last night. It wouldn't need too much thinking to figure it out what's going on. Gosh, he hated industry secrets. But even if feeling kind of guilty, he knows some pretty worse shit happening between those walls, so he got at least that to help him to keep on lying.
"Ah, but you don't understand. Bunnies are a really important part of our fan service. I just remembered, they need to decide how to play it in a way that would provide more merchandising and more incoming." Binnie took over, saving him from floundering even more. Chan gave him a thanking look, putting on his coat to move away.
"Oh, I see. Well, if you can't miss it... Binnie-ah, come to sit next to me, please." the assistant gave up, and Binnie immediately moved, along with his own papers and notes. Feeling much at ease now that his friends had helped him and the employer is no longer nosing in his business, he pressed the red button to open the microphone to the recording booth, talking to Seungmin through it.
"Seungmin-ah, it's okay if it's Changbin-ah to guide your recording?" he asked, and the younger turned his head to the glass to peer inside the room next to his.
"Uh? Why? Where are you going?" under his thick black glasses, Minnie was sporting an arched eyebrow that was entirely Minho's legacy. That's what he gets for letting the cat guy to grow the two maknaes as his own personal ducklings.
Chan pressed on the red button again to reply, but Binnie beat him on time.
"He needs to check the bunnies' fur." he said, then letting a high-pitched laugh, even if in a shorter version.
"Bunnies?" Seungmin repeated in confusion but after a little pout, his face morphed into a knowing look. Oh, shit.
"Make sure to not dirt the bunnies' fur, hyung. It's hard to wash it off." he stated, offering a wave of eyebrows and a smug smirk to his leader. Chan felt his face turn of every shade of red and purple.
"I WOULD NEVER!" he gasped, a little too loud to seem convincing. Binnie didn't even spare him a look, just shook his head and look down at sheets of lyrics in front of him.
Ah, and he would. He would. Of course he would.
He hurried up all his gathering and briefly said his goodbyes, not missing the knowing wink Changbin sent his way. His ears felt on fire, but he kept walking with his face down, exiting the building, hoping to not see any of his superiors. For once in his life, he's lucky without putting that much effort, and he reached the street without being noticed. Usually, more for safety than practicality, they are supposed to call their drivers to move from one point to another (and that includes from the studio to the dorm) but these days it seems like they could easily afford to avoid that. Also, Chan needs to think. He needs this walk home to really analyze his own thoughts.
