The River Queen Loreley

chapter 3: a friend ? or an enemy ?

"What are you doing here skywing?  these grounds are sacred only dragons chosen may come here," Queen Moorhen said to Scorch as he was already in a bow of apology,

"So very sorry Queen Moorhen. I was on a run from some pretty hostile dragons. please I just need to stay low for awhile," Scorch was begging for Queen Moorhen to let him stay in this old castle. but why did Loreley have such a bad feeling about Scorch?,

"Wait Queen Moorhen this dragon must be tested. I have a feeling he isn't being totally truthful how do we know if these attackers he speak of are true?" Queen Moorhen could see Loreley's logic it would be unwise to buy his story right of the bat,

"She's right. do have any prove of these dragons who are after you ?" Scorch shook his head, "no I had to fly. otherwise they would have murdered me for setting something pretty important on fire by accident,"

Scorch seem somewhat like a clumsy dragon. but did he really 'accidentally' set that important thing on fire ? or was it on purpose?

"But why did you 'accidentally' burn something important to whoever is chasing you ?" Scorch seem hurt that the queen accused him of lying, "look I didn't do it on purpose. that shop was dusty and I sneezed a burst of fire. the item I burnt was a fairly important scroll with uhhh the name of my family's ancestors. I promise you I'm not lying I wouldn't lie to 3 dragons who very much could kill me," Scorch look to Loreley then Queen Moorhen and last to Turtle,

Loreley Faced he wasn't a threat after all despite being a skywing. the kind of dragons who took Loreley's mother and father's lives,

Oddly the entire time Loreley had been speaking with Scorch his wings had been spread as if to hide something,

"Uhhh why are you staring at me like that? do I have something stuck in between my scales?" Scorch asked nervously as Loreley didn't give him a response. but she lunged at him making him jump out of her way and Loreley's theory was proven right,

Scrolls of many was indeed hidden behind where he was standing all of them seawing related. Scorch had been trying to stall so he could bolt away at the right time with the scroll or scrolls he needed most,

"Why are you trying to steal from my great great great grandmother's old palace Scorch?" Loreley asked her eyes narrowed at him with a frown,

"I uhh just needed them for research of uhhh prince.." Loreley inch closer, "go on" she said as Scorch continued. "Prince Flareburn the tyrant skywing prince," Loreley seem to be disappointed maybe hoping for a skywing. who wasn't a scum but Scorch had quite clearly tried to steal ancient history. from a ruin a place sacred to the mudwings here and to Loreley's family,

"You just like all the rest you tried to steal from my family Scorch. tell me the truth did you even burn this scroll you spoke about earlier. or was that a lie too?" Loreley eyes was locked with Scorch's she saw nothing but pure fear in his Amber eyes. either he was afraid of her or Queen Moorhen,

Scorch sighed and closed his eyes "no there was never any scroll burning. I lied some mean looking skywing named Apex ordered me to raid this palace. if I didn't he would find a way to frame me so I would be put in the arena to die," Scorch looked so sad it kinda made Loreley feel bad for him but wait a minute Apex ? Loreley had heard that name before long ago when she was with her mother hiding from skywings above,

"Apex was the one who gave my mother that deathly blow to her back and gave me my three scars," Loreley thought as she look down at her tail,

"Hey listen the dragon you just named Apex. he hasn't only hurt you," Loreley wave her tail to his face showing the three very visible scars,
