"Andre told me that you told him I was home taking care of Jaden." I look at Imma and see guilty written all over her face.
"Well yes I did. He walked up to me and asked where you were. I told him only after I called him an stupid jack a** that sucks his own d*ck while getting butt f*cked by a banana. What did he do anyway?" I stare at Imma before laughing at her.
"Well he brought over food so I can make homemade chicken soup. He spent some time with Jaden making him feel better. Washed some dishes and then got scares shizzless by Uncle Mike."
"How?" They both question at the same time.
"The usual. Uncle Mike pulled a gun on him while he was washing dishes. Then pulled it on him once he realized who Andre was."
We all laugh at my uncle's intimation methods. "We love Uncle Mike. He rocks so hard." Tonii says after we drop off two stacks of paper. We deliver three more stacks of paper. Tonii seems lost in thought as we walk around the school.
"Tonii what's wrong?" I ask her.
"My mom called last night saying she wants to see me." She responds cold.
"What the shizz?"
"What the entire f*ck?" Imma and I respond at the same time.
"After all this time she just acts like she can walk in and s*it will be all grits and gravy." Tonii's mother left her and her father when she was only 8. Her mom said she was going to store and never came back. The divorce papers came a week later. The papers signing over her rights as a mother came two weeks after that. She used to call on her birthday, Christmas, and thanksgiving but that lasted for two years before the calls stopped altogether. Tonii actually found out on Facebook that her mom got remarried and had two more children. A little girl that's 8 and a little boy that 6. Turns out her mom got pregnant right after she abandoned her family. About three years ago Tonii drove all the way to Georgia to ask her mom why she left her family. Her mom's only answer was 'It was too much pressure being married to a police officer'. Yet her new husband is a police officer. They have not spoken since that day. Tonii's dad eventually moved on and remarried about 5 years ago. Ms. Carol is Tonii's step mom but you wouldn't think that because they get along so well. Ms. Carol can't have children so she always calls Tonii her 'Miracle child' so she adopted her soon after she married her dad.
"So what are you going to do?" Imma asks while staring at Tonii.
"I have no idea." She hangs her head.
I walk over to her and tilt her head so she is looking at me. "I'm telling you what you will do. You will met with her. Let her know that it is the last time she will talk to or see you. She can't walk back into your life when she feels it's convent for her. You can't hold grudges your entire life. I know you always wonder what life would be like is she never left. But you have your dad and Ms. Carol, and us. You can not hold on to the hate that you have for her. Let it go because you will feel so much better when you do. You are an amazing young lady. You're smart, kind, a private detective, a hit man in the making, and a full blown crazy person. She missed out not you." I wipe away the tears that formed in her eyes. Imma joins me as we give her a group hug.
"I'm lucky to have two best friends like you guys."
"We are just as luck to have you hun." Imma says
"Alright lets finish passing out these papers before lunch." We pass out the last stack of papers as soon as the lunch bell rings. We arrive at our table under the tree and wait for Andre and Spenser to arrive. Andre is outside but looking in the wrong direction.
"HEY JERK OFF!!!" Imma yells and gets his attention. He walks over to us the same time.
"Ready to get lunch?" Tonii asks the group.
