"Saph, how many times do I have to remind you not to say things like 'that's not ladylike' or 'man up'?" Oakley complains as she scrolls through something on her phone. "It's an outdated concept that a woman has to be a certain way to be accepted, whereas being a male means you have to be sporty or 'strong' and you aren't a true man if you show too much emotion."
Saph sighs. "I'm sorry, okay? Please tell me I don't have to put a quarter in the feminist swear jar."
"I'll let you off since it's the beginning of the year." Oakley claims that saying phrases that are sexist or outdated misogynistic concepts are basically blasphemy to a feminist and now she's conditioning us. She claims it's purely for educational purposes, but I'm pretty sure Sapphire's slip ups alone pay for her lunch.
I glanced at Farrah who was next to me and frowned. She wasn't touching her mac n' cheese and besides a wave or two she hadn't said anything at all.
Saph and Lee were arguing about some tv show and I turn towards Farrah. "Hey."
She glances at me briefly. "Hey... " she trails off like she wants to say something but decided against it.
"So how's your day going?" I smile at her trying to start a conversation.
"Okay."
"Are you going to audition for Grease?"
"Maybe..."
I groan internally realizing this is getting nowhere. "Look I know you only want what's best for me, and if I made you feel bad last night I'm really truly sorry Fare." I plead.
Farrah shook her head. "I'm not angry about that, Belle."
"Then what?? What did I do because you're clearly upset about something-"
"Belle-"
"And I'm sorry I'm not being the best friend right now I have a lot-"
"Stop-"
"On my plate okay? But I know that's not an excuse-"
"SHUT UP OKAY?!" Farrah shouts, a lot of people stop talking and look at us. Farrah looks around and then gets up and storms out of the cafeteria. As she got up though, her hand smacks the lunch tray splattering the girl behind her's back in mac n' cheese.
The girl shrieks screaming about her hair launching her Coke at my face. I duck, but it hits Oakley who seethes throwing her barbeque sauce at the other table.
In no time there's a huge food fight, most people hiding under tables, but some charging while shouting war cries. Caught in the chaos, I try to inch my way to the exit when a large yellow blob comes spiraling towards me.
The blob and I crash, and both of us are sent slamming into the floor. I groan rubbing my head when I notice what's lying next to me. "What the heck??" I mutter, because infront of my is a full corn cob. Who packs a corn cob for school lunch, anyway?
~~~
I walk around the hallways, before I hear a distant sniffling. Following the sound I find myself in front of the theater. I glance around me since we're not supposed to go in without an adult, and slip inside. Being as quiet as I possibly can, I walk up to the seat next to Farrah and sit down.
She's silently crying, big tears rolling down her cheeks. I touch her shoulder comfortingly and she hugs me tightly starting to full out bawl. I mumble nothings to her, rubbing her back until she calms down.
Farrah wipes her face and stands up walking towards the stage looking behind her once to make sure I was following. She climbs onstage and sits down on the ledge. I follow her lead. I look around the theater house until Farrah sighs.
"Yesterday after I left your house..." She pauses to gather her thoughts. "I found my mate."
Author's Note:
I'M SORRY OKAY I JUST HAD A LOT GOING ON AND I'M SORRY THAT'S ALWAYS MY EXCUSE. But, the summer theater show is over, I went on vacation, I'm done with 1/4 of my summer homework (anyone know a great way to memorize the first like 50 elements??), and I have now watched every single episode of Steven Universe. (Also, Gravity Falls started back up! ^_^) But now it's August and I didn't keep my promise of updating twice a month (which was actually my goal at the beginning XD) I'm sorry guys, but this year I'm taking creative writing so maybe I will have more time? Maybe??
