“What?” Buff asked.
“Over there, look. It’s Zeke,” I said, pointing to him. Oh, man, this isn’t going to be good.
“How does he know you’re here?” Buff asked.
“No one knows.... oh... Blake,” I said evilly. “Just stay here, I’ll deal with it.”
I put the drink down and stood up and walked over to Zeke. Before he could even say anything I grabbed his arm and moved him out of way.
“What are you doing here?” I demanded.
“Stopping you from doing anything stupid,” he told me.
“I’m not going to anything stupid. I’m having one drink and then going home. No harm done,” I said.
“Why don’t I believe you?” he asked.
“Because you worry about me way more than you need to,” I muttered.
“That’s exactly why you’re coming home with me right now,” Zeke said, grabbing my arm.
“Hey, let go of me. I’m not going anywhere,” I said, trying to pull my arm away. “Let go of me.”
“Hey, she said let go of her.”
Great, just bloody great. Buff had obviously seen my attempt to escape Zeke’s grip and thought it was more serious than it actually was. He sometimes treated me like I was his little sister, which I possibly could be. Obviously seeing Buff he let go of my arm, but that wasn’t the end of it.
“He’s not hurting me, Buff, don’t worry,” I told him. “But you should leave, Zeke.”
“No,” he said quickly. “I can’t leave you here after last time.”
“I’ll be fine,” I muttered, “but you need to leave.”
“And what will happen if I don’t?” Zeke asked, putting on his toughest voice.
“Well then I’ll deal with you,” Buff butted in. “If Alex wants you to leave then you should.”
“No one wants you here,” I told Zeke calmly.
“I’m not leaving unless you go,” Zeke said, looking straight into my eyes.
I saw his pain, I saw how much it hurt for me to be so cruel to him, but I needed to stay strong.
“Leave, or you’ll be made to,” Buff threatened Zeke.
“Don’t threaten me,” Zeke said angrily.
“Don’t argue, Zeke,” I whispered.
“Just come with now, Alex,” Zeke said, grabbing my arm.
“No, Zeke stop it- BUFF!!!”
It happened within seconds of Zeke trying to grab my arm. Buff thought the worst again, but I knew Zeke would never hurt me, not even if he wanted to, but Buff didn’t know any better. Zeke wasn’t holding to me anymore... he wasn’t really moving. Buff’s punch had been so strong he had literally knocked Zeke out. For this Zeke, it meant more injures to add to his list.
“You could’ve killed him,” I muttered, bending down to Zeke and checking for a pulse.
“I didn’t think he’d fall like that, and he’s not dead, is he?” Buff asked.
“No, course not,” I whispered. “But he wasn’t hurting me, he’s thinks he trying to help me. You shouldn’t have punched him, I was dealing with it.”
“I’m sorry, I thought he was hurting you-,” Buff started to say.
“I know, I know,” I interrupted him. “And you wanted to protect me. Well, now you can help me get him into his car. I’ll drive him back to my place and make sure he walks up.”
Buff agreed, only because he knew that I would’ve killed him if he left Zeke lying there. He picked up Zeke and nearly threw him over his shoulder. I put my drink down and then walked slowly over until we found Zeke’s car. Buff put Zeke down on the passenger seat and I searched Zeke’s jeans pockets for the keys, until I found them. I shut the door and looked back over at Buff.
“Sorry,” he muttered.
“You were trying to help,” I said. “Do me a favour and if you ever Zeke, stay away from him. I don’t want him dead.”
“You’ve got a deal,” he said.
I sighed as Buff walked away turned back to see Zeke with his head on his shoulder and tongue slightly falling out of his mouth. I laughed slightly; it was kind of really cute. No, focus Alex, remember what you promised yourself, and stick to it. Forever.
