She nodded, "Sorry, I spaced out." she hopped from the bar stool, dropping two or three inches smaller than me even in her court heels. She smoothed out her top and fixed her stretchy jeans as a sigh escaped her dry lips. "We better go."

I caught her wrist, "Don't you want to say goodbye to Scarlett?"

She looked down slowly and painfully at the sleeping beauty, her chin dimple appearing as her lip quivered. She covered it up quickly by reopening her mouth. "No. Because if I leave without a goodbye then I won't be missing anything when the judge tells me I'm not allowed to see her again."

I closed my eyes, inhaling deeply to subside the burning sensation in my heart. "Don't say that."

"Why?" She shot, causing my eyes to open at her strong and persistent tone. Her caramel brown irises turned dark, almost to a colour of black as she stared back with a glossy gaze. "It's true. There is a fifty-fifty chance that once I walk out of that courtroom today, there will be a restraining order placed on me to stay one hundred or more yards away from Scarlett. I'm not going to stand and cuddle with that beautiful little girl just to have her ripped away from me!"

My grandparents, siblings and Bobbie's attention was drawn to the distressed woman sitting feet away. Grandma was quick to clapped her hands. "Why don't we all go and see if Justin has any DVD's in his room to watch next?"

Sending her a thankful look, the completely oblivious kids rushed down the hallway with my grandparents following in suit. Leaving Lux biting back tears, I quickly lay Scarlett into her swing before returning to my upset girlfriend who refused to breakdown. I heard her whimpers and loose sobs this morning whilst passing the bathroom door, saw her reddened eyes when she came out but she stubbornly rejected my accusation when asking if she was crying.

"C'mere." I murmured, curling my fingers around her slim wrist and tugging her forward. She collapsed into my chest and clutched my suit jacket. Kissing the top of her head, I inhaled the calming smell of her fruity shampoo. "I made a promise to you and to Scarlett; I told you both that after today, we would live a happy and drama free life once them two disgusting women are out of it. I never break my promises, Lux."

"I know you're trying to make me feel better." She mumbled into my shirt, breaking away but keeping her arms firmly clasped around my torso. "But you know too that there is a chance that the judge will dismiss the case with me out of the picture and if that's going to happen, I don't want to cuddle with Scarlett and know it's the last time. That would destroy me."

"Lux, You will never be missing from Scarlett's life. We are going to raise her together, you hear me? Who cares if the court gets dismiss — we'll go to a different one but either of them women will never be near our daughter. Our daughter, Lux. Not Hayley's, or Maria's. Ours. We made her — sure not naturally but nevertheless, she shares our DNA and once that is proved with the test results, then this whole thing will be resolved and it will be us getting the restraining orders on their asses."

She let out the weakest giggle, her lips barely even twitching upwards as her arms fell loose. "I just want this day to be over with already."

"So do I but once it is, we'll never have to look at them two again and I can certainly promise you that."

The ceilings were high, a vintage piece of carved art woven into the boarders as three lights hung in the center of the room. It was the same private room we were held in two weeks ago and while we were already seated, my eyes smoldered across to the benches soon to be filled with the two poisoned witches and their snobby entourage. Mike had told us that we didn't need to take to the stands today, that he would deal with everything, including the new found information I had given him.
