"No," she grinned, "I was in the office and there were a bunch of pictures and trophies. I just recognized you from the picture. Or shall I say pictures. With an 'S.'"
"Yeah I guess you could put it that way, but I'm gonna stick to the theory of being stalked," I replied.
"Why?"
"Because it puts adventure and goosebumps in my life," I said.
"If you want that just read the Goosebumps series," she shrugged.
"Me? Read? A book? What is this the nineteenth century?" I asked.
She rolled her eyes, "Yes Shawn it sure is."
"So do I have to talk all formal, good afternoon Miss Em daughter of a father who's name I do not know. And then you'd be like, oh good afternoon Mr.Parris son of Lilly Parris." I said with really weird British accents.
Em laughed, "Your suppose to say your dad's name."
I looked down at my book my smile slightly fading and turning into a sad smile, "My father is dead. He had Leukemia."
There was silence and finally Em broke the silence.
"Shawn I'm sorry, I didn't mean to." She said softly.
"It's fine, and not to be rude but it pisses me off when people say sorry. It's not like you can bring him back," I said truthfully.
"I know," Em said.
I looked at her confused.
"My parents just got divorced, thats why I moved here. To live with my mom," She replied answering my question.
"Sorry doesn't cut it, does it?" I asked.
"No," she replied.
We stayed silent for a minute while the rest of the class talked and chatted. We were suppose to be answering questions in our textbooks but the teacher said we could talk.
"Do you have any sisters?" I asked.
"No I'm an only child," Em said smiling again.
I grinned, "That's cool."
I looked down at her backpack then back up to her.
"You don't have a locker yet?" I asked.
"Naw they said I have to wait till the end of the day," Em replied.
I smirked, "Not if you're me you don't."
"Huh?" She asked.
"After this class I'll take you to the office and get you a locker."
"But...I mean...can you even....you really don't have to Shawn," She stuttered.
"I insist. Think about it as the crappiest welcome present ever. Beside I know a few people," I winked at her and she laughed.
"Oh I'm sure you do," She said.
We went back to our work and every once in a while I'd glance at her, she was beautiful. How she tucked her hair behind her ear to show her perfect skin tone. I quickly looked away as she gave me a glance, luckily she didn't catch me looking at her.
"Class is dismissed," our teacher said.
We all grabbed our books and Em grabbed her backpack.
"So where to?" She asked me.
"To the office. You know where that is?" I said.
"Yup," she smirked, "I came from the there. Remember?"
